At the moment, you have to pretend to be religious to succeed in America. It is our time of true hypocrisy when the Congressman who preaches family values and moral integrity sneaks out for a date at the Madam's.
Personally, I wish they would all shut up about their so-called faith and just do their jobs. It offends me when people put on this falsely religious front, then proceed to cheat the poor, support wars, and act smugly righteous.
It's worldwide, this hypocrisy...an Evangelical Church that preaches War, a Catholic Church that covers up crimes. This behavior is turning more people away from religion than ever before, and with good reason. Religions should heed the Biblical advice..."Physician, heal thyself!"

smells_like_pot, plain old joey and Peter D...... thats not true...... there are Buddhists, Muslims and even an Atheist in Congress!!
Keith Ellison, a Minnesota Democrat, took his oath on a Quran once owned by Thomas Jefferson. Prior to his taking the oath, he was criticized by Virginia Republican Virgil Goode, who warned of an influx of Muslims being elected to public office.
Thomas Jefferson was a Secular Humanist.
Rep. Mazie Hirono, a Hawaii Democrat who was raised in the Buddhist tradition, said, "I don't have a book. ... But I certainly believe in the precepts of Buddhism and that of tolerance of other religions and integrity and honesty."
Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.), a member of Congress since 1973, is an open Atheist. Rep. Stark is a senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and is Chair of the Health Subcommittee.
It's about time that we have people of other backgrounds and faiths in Congress ... what happened to separation of church and state and religious tolerance? I believe in those things!

95% of America's leaders, both business and political are NOT religious. Does that help? If they are political leaders they usually SAY they are religious becuase they know the religious are gullible and will vote for them if they say the right things. Doing the right things is not an required.

Yes. It doesn't matter what you believe in. A recent study of Americans found 40% wouldn't vote for an atheist president, despite his policies.

This reminds me of the part in The Right Stuff where all of the astronauts say they go to church regularly (while trying to keep a straight face) at the news conference.
They say if you want to kill your political career say you're atheist. I would like to find out if they're right.

I consider myself successful, yet I'm not religious. Why would you be? I have morals, I have a good conscience, why would I need a set of rules set up by a book to lead an honest successful life?
