Just give your LOVE and AFFECTION. This is more than enough. Retired or elderly people do not require anything, they long for love and affection from their children, which is denied to them by most of the children, now-a-days. The parents have taken care of you all these years even in their difficult days and you should reciprocate it and not deprive of this. He will certainly remember this through his life-

Give him something that will keep him occupied after his retirement. If he had a hobby which he could not pursue cause of his work schedule, get him back to it. If there is any sport, something like golf, which is not too strenuous and lot of elderly people play it, then you could get him to it. My suggestion give him something which would keep him company. This would surely make him remember you and the gift all through his life. Best of luck

Your father is retired not tired, just stand by him as this is the very critical phase of ones life.

Search a private job for him and let he be busy and don't feel odd, till he will say I want to stay home.

Talk to him, and discuss things and give him more attention, love and affection.

If you can afford buy for him a peace of mind and give him tickets to some hill station and let him enjoy for few retiring days.

I love slide shows or scrap book type gifts! It doesn't have to be elaborate, but just the highlights through his years. Your choice if you want to gear it around his career or his whole life with family! Also could get family members to send a special picture and to write a little special note, then you can put the sentiment under their photo and compile it in a book for him.

WHATEVER YOU GIVE WILL NOT HAVE ANY MONETORY VALUE

IF U ARE FINANCIALLY SOUND

GIVE HIM A CAR THAT SUITS HIS PERSONALITY

U MUST BE KNOWING WHAT A CAR MEANS TO A MAN

HE MIGHT GET EMOTIONALLY SO ATTACHED TO THE CAR U WILL GIVE THEM

AND ALSO UR FATHER WILL GET COMFORTABLE WHILE TRAVELLING.

OR ELSE

IF U DONT HAVE THAT MONEY

GIVE HIM A SWEET HUG AND A CARD WITH LOVE

THAT WILL ALSO DO

AND DONT FORGET SAYING THAT NOW HE CAN LIVE WITH U ALL THE TIME UNLIKE HE DID AT UR CHILDHOOD AND U CAN GET A GOOD TIME TOGETHER

If you love your father truly, you must be knowing his likes and dislikes and his hobbies. So u can gift him accordingly like some musical item, or some club membership or anything which he likes to be involved in .

A piece of jewerly (watch), clothes, or you could write him a nice poem. I'd also say a gift certificate but that might not last his entire life....!
