USA or UK cops?

I can only talk for the latter but I'm obviously bias anyway.

I think in general the police do a good job, despite all the crap the government enforce on us. Most people don't know the half of what we have to do and how little time we get to patrol. There are instances of exceptional work and likewise instances of poor service. The poor service gets publicised more. The excellent work gets countered by a ridiculous sentence, which although is not the Police's fault, doesn't look good.

As for trusting an officer I see no reason why you should'nt. Again some people will have had poor service or feel they have been mistreated, or believe every article they read in the papers. Just to put this in perspective.... a celebrity was involved in an incident in a very minor way. The press reported it that the celebrity was a hero and single handedly dealt with the incident. This in no way reflected what happened. I know I was there.

The Police are there to enforce laws, whether they be serious or minor offences. Its pretty obvious that in some quarters this will not be popular, especially if you are the offender.

Well, the media makes sure you hear nothing but the "terrible stories." Police are doing their jobs to protect us. Sure, there's one or two bad ones in a few thousand of them, but the same thing holds true for every other profession. If you're a law abiding legal citizen, police are the one group of people you should trust, even if you are paranoid about people, most of which I agree can't be trusted.

I think the majority of police are more than trustworthy. As with any profession there are some rotten apples in the bunch. I believe many Americans have less trust in the police because every time there is a rotten apple the news media blows it out of proportion and blasts it in front of the public for days if not weeks. If it makes you feel any better the honest police dislike the dishonest police even more than you do because they feel it gives all of us a bad name.

Absolutely I trust them. There is good and bad in every walk of life, but overall the Police are here to serve and protect, they receive a bad rap because people do stupid things, are caught and do not wish to face the consequences.

If you don't want the "big bad police" knocking on your door, abide by the laws and they won't come near you!

Can you even imagine what this country would be like without Law Enforcement?

Yes, I was A Sheriff's Deputy and I can say that bad things do go on in departments but gor the most part the majority of officers do a difficult job for minimal pay an are an asset to their community and like many others have said the news lets you hear only the bad becuase bad news sells. the worst infraction I ever had while serving was getting of a speeding ticket now and then and being able to look up a cute girls phone number from her vehichle tag...minor perks to make up for lack of pay

Maybe the problem lays with those telling the stories. Seems to me that maybe you should ask those involved instead of rumors and inuendos.

There are good and bad in every walk of life, however, I tend to believe the police are here for our protection and to help.

Normally, the ones telling the stories, are the ones attempting to hide their own misguided misfortunes.

Yes I trust the police, who else would I call if I need help, the bad guy. For all the people who said they do not trust the police I hope you do not call them when you need any help.

No way. I dont deal w/anyone connected, linked or employeed by law enforcement. I have seen through family that is in law enforcement(who by the way, I have no reason to be family like with them. They feel they are better than everybody) these people can get away with things the public cant and they do. anybody that says they dont is only lying to themselves. They constantly rant on how tough they would be if they could make stiffer penalties for different things. The disgust me with there power trip. I have minumal respect for the entire agency. I do believe there are good cops but these days they come far and in between. F The Police !!!

After witnessing an appalling lack of service from the Hampshire lot tonight, no. I have no trust in them, absolutely no faith in them and a complete lack of respect for them.
