Yes you can have more than one female god parent . My daughter has 2! There are no more men in our family and the only other ones that we had did not celebrate a religion. God parent are not there to step in if some thing happens to you that is a legal guardian. God parents are there to insure that your child is brought up and celebrates a religion that you have chosen. Ask the church though each one does have their own rules or guidelines.

Contrary to the first answer, Godmother does NOT automatically mean guardian, should something happen. Guardianship requires far more-actual legal details.

On that note, you could deem one as Godmother, and the other as Guardian. Should something ever happen to you and baby's father, you could rest assured that your Guardian would be there for your child.

I never heard of having more than one godmother. It should be the person you trust the most if God forbid something happened to you and they needed to step in. You should feel at ease knowing your baby would be taken care of with this person. How could you split that between two?

It probably depends on your faith tradition.

I'm Catholic, and I know Catholics must have at least one godparent who is a practicing Catholic, and no more than two, one of each gender. It probably varies in other churches.

Of course, there are no limit to "honorary" godparents -- you can have as many of those as you like.
