take off the antivirus.
or should I say disable the anti virus.

seriously. AVs are resource hogs

start -> run
type in
MSCONFIG
goto the start up tab
and remove the checks in the boxes.

if problems accour, go back and double check you didn't uncheck something that you needed --- or find boxes that corrispond in someway to the error messages you find.

chances are it'll all run smoothly though

First, delete any files you KNOW you don't need. This would probably be cookies, temporary internet files, data files, pictures, etc. Most people would be amazed by the amount of trash that their computer holds.

Second, run a defrag. Right-click on Start and select "Explore". Then right-click on C:, and select "Properties". Click on the "Tools" tab, and click on the defrag button. This may take some time, so do it when you don't need the computer for an hour or so. You can't use the computer while this is running. If the defrag operation doesn't seem to be making any progress, and you have an active screen saver program running, turn the screen saver off, too.

Finally, if that still doesn't speed it up, consider getting more memory for the computer. I like Memory4All.com, but you can also go to the local Best Buy or computer store, if you know the details about the chip you need. Again, click on start, and select "Control panel", then "system". You can see most everything you'll need here on the "general" tab.

Its possible you have a lot of other resources starting up in the background that you are not aware of.

Try stopping those programs from starting by running a program called MSCONFIG. See this site to show you where to find it on your system and how to use it.

Read over the instructions very carefully as you don't want do check off anything that is required.

To answer your problem, slow boot time doesn't just mean a virus. It can mean that you have many start-up programs starting when Windows starts. For example, you said that you have antivirus programs. Maybe you have messenger or other programs that start up when your computer starts up. Try setting those programs so you have to start them manually.
OR
You can try several boot programs. They speed up boot time and start your computer faster. Here are some:
