The man has a big ego and conservative views. He has to know that his assertions aren't going to change any minds and are not going to get Protestants to give up their religions and come back to the Catholic Church. His statements are just going to cause bad feelings which benefits no one, including the Catholic Church. His statement also has factual errors about the roots of Christianity and betray him as doctrinaire.

I am not upset about the comment made because, the Catholic religion is one based on Idols and save your *** Christianity. The bible never states that you have to ask the Pope for salvation. Christianity simply states that if you belief in the Lord God Almighty and accept his Only begotten Son Jesus Christ you are saved and have earned your space in heaven.
I do not understand how people can support a religion that all but supported the Nazi religion in WW2 by not standing up to the Nazi's
Even this Pope was a member of the youth Nazi because he chose to live versus death as a believer
The Catholic religion was based on Constantine say we should become Christians just in case the religion that they were practicing at the time was not real

No, I am not upset. Just because this pope said it doesn't change anything. This has been the stance from the catholics since before Martin Luther and most certainly since.
Everything is still the same. (The reason we think it changed is because the last Pope was such a Godly loving man who really embraced the people of God. And we thought the bar had been raised.)

It is upsetting when an influential person makes a ridiculous and false statement. I don't condemn nonbelievers btw. People condemn themselves by their choices. Christians are not perfect. We have simply accepted truth that non-believers haven't.

I see that you haven't given room for any explanatory responses that answer "no" to your question. Why is that?
Well, I'm going to tell you any way that I'm not upset because finally I'm hearing a Pope call the shots just as Catholic doctrine has done for over a millenium. Although I disagree with him, because no man is the final word, only God's word is. So I agree to disagree. And, due to this very impressive and consistent stand to his faith, I will now trust and respect him more than any other Pope I've witnessed since I was a child.
Now, back to you. It appears to me that you didn't convey your sincere intentions here as Pope Benedict did to the world. Why do I think this? Because it appears to me that you really don't want an explanation for your consideration at all, but rather you are using this question as a ploy to just get those who may be "upset", more upset, right? How sinister is that? You must be incredibly angry.
Sorry that this is the case, if so. But I must ask you, now that we're talking about folks being upset, over whom are you really upset? It appears to me God Himself is the source of your anger, since His Word is clearly understood by you, which I'm glad for you that at least you do. Unfortunately, you just don't like what He has to say. So, I ask you, why are you angry and blaming those who do? It's not their fault that you don't like what He has to say. Your question appears to me to be just a cheap and cowardice shot at those who disagree with you, in attempt just to get others angry as you are. How about showing some integrity next time and take this issue up with God Himself, and leave it there, and/or discuss it seriously with others, rather than slime others with your anger? You just show yourself to be quite ugly and childish. Is this really your goal? Very sad, if it is.

I have never condemned anyone to Hell and I never will. I really don't care what the Pope says.

Not really, if I wanted to accept everything the pope said I'd be a catholic. I agree with him on somethings, on this one I don't. But don't worry, I don't think he'll have christians rioting over this the way he had the muslims rioting a few years back.

This is nothing new. Popey-dopeys have been saying this ever since Luther nailed the 95 Theses on the door at Wittenburg.
The catholic "church" must be running low on cash flow after having to pay out all those tens of millions to settle those priest violating altar boys scandals.

Since there is no evidence of Peter ever being in Rome, which is what the Pope claims, it is impossible for the Vatican to trace their bishops back to this apostle Peter. Impossible.

Yeah, unless the Pope is God himself (seems unlikely to ME, but he sounds like he THINKS he is) he can't condemn anyone to hell.
