You can have Lasik at age 18, if you are a good candidate for the surgery. The best thing to do is to check with a qualified surgeon in your area. Most will do a preliminary assessment for free.
You will have to go at least 3 weeks without contacts before you can have the surgery. They can do the corneal thickness tests to be sure that you have enough "meat" in the eye to work with, before you spend three weeks without your contacts. I know that glasses are a pain, I had the exact same prescription as you (-6.50 contacts) and the three weeks before my surgery were basically a living hell!
I had the surgery almost 3 months ago. I am much older than you, and I really wish that it had been available when I was your age! It is the best thing that I have done in my life.(Marrying my wife comes in second) I now am seeing 20/20 without corrective lenses! My only regret is I did not do it sooner!
(My wife had the same surgery two weeks after I did, and feels the same way about it!)

You are old enough, but it is pointless to get it if your prescription is still changing every 1-2 years. For this reason, they say it is best to wait until at least your mid-20's or so, just to make absolutely sure your vision has stabilized.
BTW, I also wear -6.50, and have needed glasses since I was 8 - my prescription finally started stabilizing around the age of 20 or so - I am 28 now and can still wear the same glasses I got when I was 20.

almost always it's 18, BUT your eyes do not give up developing and replacing till you're no less than 21. A pal of mine had hers performed at 18 and now at nearly 24 they're getting worse once more. My different pal works at a watch healthcare professional workplace and they are going to now not do any person underneath the age of 21 interval and that is in florida.

18YRS OLD. YOUR PERSCRIPTION HAS TO BE STABLE FOR A WHILE. SCHEDULE A CONSULT. AND WHILE YOU ARE WAITING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT, DON'T WEAR YOUR CONTACTS. YOU HAVE TO BE OUT OF YOUR LENSES FOR AT LEAST 2WKS. REMEMBER THESE ARE YOUR EYES, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING 2-3 CONSULTS WITH DIFFERENT DOCTORS. ASK ABOUT PRK vs. LASIK. YOU MAY FIND OUT YOURE MORE INTERESTED IN PRK. (THERE'S NO FLAP WITH PRK) BEST OF LUCK AND HAPPY SEEING!

26 is the reccomended age. until then you eyesight will continue to rapidly decline. in other words if you have the surgery when your 18, your eye sight will be just as bad in only a few years.
