You have to visit the MI5 website and make a speculative application. Visit http://www.mi5.gov.uk/output/Page15.html.

You have to access careers and browse and consider whether the qualities would suit you. Also, you should know MI5 and MI6 agents are not what the movies have you believe. The 'agents' are in reality desk intelligence analysers. They look at information, contact various sources across the globe, and work with superiors to monitor people's activities. The work is highly administrative and highly strategic. You are likely to need very good qualifications and expertise in biotechnology and so on.

An agent, that's a difficult one to answer. But to work for MI5, the website is the best place to start, contrary to what Mark said you don't need a degree or to have gone to Oxford or Cambridge. You would need the right attitude and a useful set of skills, as well as a good, checkable background. Many myths about the security services are explained on the website, worth a visit even if you are not applying.

Dont forget applicants are required to go through a DV process. This involves completing detailed questionnaires, discussing these with a vetting officer and nominating referees for interview. Enquiries may not be confined to past and present employers and character referees(they do family checks). There will also be a financial check, including a check with a Credit Reference Agency. Additional stages may be required for some candidates (eg medical assessments).

Good luck agent Mdtaiwo!

You must be a British citizen and at least one of your parents must be a British citizen or have substantial ties with the United Kingdom or, if deceased, have had such citizenship or ties before death. British dual nationals may apply but will normally be required to relinquish any other nationality before appointment.

YOU WILL HAVE TO PASS MEDICAL AND SECURITY CLEARANCE. You will be subject to a medical and rigorous security clearance to ensure your suitability for appointment. You will be drugs tested and need to complete detailed and intrusive Developed Vetting Questionnaires. If you do not meet the Developed Vetting requirements for the job and conceal or lie about vetting issues, your application will not be taken forward.

MI5 and MI6 recruit directly as well as through other security services such as the police and armed forces. You almost certainly need a degree.

Honesty and integrity are the two main requirements - if you're untrustworthy you're not suitable for security work.

well, for a start you have to study at least 3 languages at degree level, english literature, physics (degree level) (yes, this is for MI6 as an international spy, see Commander James Bond)

Join the armed forces, serve for at least 7 years, complete all written and oral tests, have both full car and motorcycle license, most probably a private pilots license, combat experience and most certainly great mechanical comprehension and the ability to think on your feet, act fast and understand the consequences.

If you think you have something to offer then apply direct to them. You must be able to observe and communicate, beyond that you just need to sell yourself to them like any employer.
