It has all the tenants of a religion:
1. A garden of Eden: Earth before the sinful man inhabited it.
2. Sin = evolving beyond cave dwellers, using cars bigger than a battery operated tuna can, wanting to use up all the oil until it's gone, wanting to advance as a species through technology etc.....
3. Sacrifice =. Paying through the sacrifice of personal liberties, higher taxes and bigger government. After all, the least we could do is give our money and rights to the church of Environmentalism, they know best.
4. A savior.= Al Gore
5. GOD = Mother Earth
6. Last but not least, Man is the AIDS/Scourge of the earth. They won't be happy until we are reduced to a tree monkey in terms of their food chain; Well, except for Leonardo, Al Gore, Madonna, and anyone else who needs to fly around in their private jets to spread the word of................This religion. huh!!!!!!!
Need I go on? There is plenty of evidence to support that man has absolutely nothing to do with "Global Climate Change". But, that doesn't advance the agenda of the church. If we can't blame man, we can't justify growing the size of government and guilt them into paying more taxes and giving up more rights. Here's an idea:
I'll keep my religion out of your uterus, if you keep your carbon guilt out of my wallet.
Let's all get on board the Logic express, and choo along. eh?

Some have. Global warming is a fact. The climate is indeed changing. Humans have effected this to some extent or another. Technically breathing increases our carbon footprint. Everything we burn increases our carbon footprint. This increase causes global warming. That said, the level gets blown out of proportion by those less educated in the science behind it.
As to the cows, they breath and fart so yes, they contribute to global warming. So does every living animal.
The way we combat this is not the sweeping silliness proposed by the people you are poking fun at but small changes. Buy a car that fits your needs. Don't buy an SUV unless you are actually carrying 7 people off road. Fuel efficient vehicles help keep our air cleaner and save you money. I drive a Nissan Sentra for that reason. Fits my needs and saves me money. I try to make sensible choices in my daily life and spot the BS "green" solutions that don't actually do anything, like recycling.
I guess to finally answer your question, if you define a religion as something people believe that guides their lives without actually understanding any of the facts behind it, yes Global Warming can be a religion.

They have gone insane, they are riding the global warming scare for money/political gain. The truth is humans are only responsible for about 5% of the CO2 that goes into the atmosphere. If we cut human CO2 by even 10% that would only effect the total by 0.5%. Whether or not global warming will continue until the earth is uninhabitable, we will not be able to prevent it. It is a force of a nature that no man can stop.
----edit----
It IS beneficial for our environment to cut back on emissions, BUT my point is it may not effect the global warming trend. The earth has being going through warming and cooling cycles since anyone has been around to observe them. This is not an unnatural occurrence. There were talks of the 'next ice age' early last century.
----edit----
For all of you sheep that so happily jumped on the global warming bandwagon, I'd suggest you see a different pov before making your final decision. I understand that any source may be biased and that despite evidence may be wrong as well, but I have taken the time to view different sources and the documentary below has really shown the holes in al gores presentations.

It isn't just faith; there is actually some evidence which needs to be dealt with. It is fairly clear that earthly temperatures are rising, although fluctuations in temperature have occurred throughout earth's history. It is a fact that atmospheric CO2 levels have risen about 10% in the past forty years. There may be a cause and effect relationship between these phenomena -- or not. Since controlled experiments are obviously impossible, what little we know about it comes from computer simulations. Which may, or may not, be valid.

hahahahahaa.. I am a muslim and do believe in Global Warming... this is a serious issue the human race is inflecting on this planet.... may this signals the end of time... m
many things the Prophet Mohammed and the Quran has told us about the signs of the end of time are becoming true.. ie the poor people of the desert will race in hieghts of the buildings.. (look at saudi arabia, UAE, kuwait..etc) .. also that the arabian penesula (i dont know how to spell it) well return green again... this can be predicted by global warming as it causes more rain and thunder storms in the middle east... last winter there was reports of snow in areas where snow was never heard of

You must have such a simplistic view of the world, since you don't understand how any phenomena can be the result of multiple causes.
And no, of course not. "faith" is only required if you have no scientific knowledge, and want to keep it like that.
Also: What are you doing posting on a site that has an entire category for "global warming"? I think that you should boycott yahoo until they remove it.

Certainly some environmentalists are as looney as some religious people. I think though, that global warming is a religious issue only to the very conservative right. I have no idea why the fact of global warming would challange their belief in god though.

This is creative but, wrong. Nobody says we are the SOLE cause of it. We are just the biggest contributor to it. It is called science. Just because you refuse to read up on the facts doesn't mean that they don't exist. The cows give off greenhouse gases. Again, nobody is blaming them SOLY for global warming.

scaremongers will always create something to be scared about - is for their benefit (mostly commercial). It does not mean we can do what ever we want with the Earth - just in the same way we cannot do mess unhigienic things etc in our homes for our own good. don't you feel better after you clean your home? The same applies to our big home - Earth
