I've seen some of those little sarcastic comments like "I'm a protestant, I really don't care what the Pope says." And yet, those very people are paying attention to everything about the Pope and the Catholic Church.
I think it's great that our Church and Holy Father are getting so much attention right now.....because even though a lot of it is negative, some will be inspired to actually look into what the Church truly teaches and cross the Tiber.
Once something peaks their curiosity and catches their interest, people can't help but to seek and try to find answers. It is truly amazing how God can use things for His glory.
God bless...

Like I just said in a reply to another question about whether the Pope deserves to go to Hell for "judging," I find the irony of this to be both funny and sickening. Funny, in that Protestants have bashed us Catholics in this Forum, telling us that we're not real Christians and we're going to Hell. Now that they think the shoe is on the other foot, they're hollering and whining about how wrong the Pope is to say something so "judgmental." I find that hilarious, in a sad sort of way.
It's also sickening in that apparently, nobody's learning anything from this experience. Rather than read what the Pope actually said about the Protestant faiths being "wounded" in the sense of being incomplete, everybody's jumping to conclusions. People are assuming a lot of things that aren't true, instead of finding out what was really said.
And that's why this forum continues to be the war zone that it is.

I fail to see why the matter would be of any interest to anyone other than a Catholic,what to speak of atheists taking such a remarkable interest in Catholic theology. It's just their usual hyprocrisy. I was surprized by the position taken on the Eastern Orthodox Church,since it has preserved disciplic succession and as far as the primacy issue is concerned,that's what caused the original split; I fail to see anything productive in reviving it. As to Protestantism,when you look at the wholesale never-ending balkanization as well as the extremism,the current position is justified. Fundamentalism is more of a threat to the stature of Christianity than any amount of attempted atheist debunking.

With all the negative, I will pray that someone actually reads the document that His Holiness wrote rather than take the opinion of the Liberal Media.
I do think it is funny (in a sad way) that many fundamentalist protestants are feeling the way they are - this is the exact same way they treat us (the Catholics) on a daily basis.
Benedict only speaks the Truth and the Truth is rarely popular these days of political correctness.

As much fun as possible, I'm sure! What's with the big blitz of Catholic questions -- are the natives getting restless again? Should we circle up the wagons and prepare to defend ourselves from an attack? Do I need to bring my Rosary out - again? Or do we need to go on another Crusade? I'm afraid it would be an unfair fight, as they Armed with Stupidity, and I won't fight an unarmed man (or a woman, for that matter)! God Bless You & have a great day!!!

Heh... the headline might as well read, "Pope Re-affirms longstanding ecclesiology"... I wonder if the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith just copy and pasted out of their old boss' "Dominus Iesus" for these new statements? :)

ConstElation: good point.
If JP II said the 2nd quote, it's little wonder Catholicism is in the state it's in. :( It's truly sad that the plain truth of scripture is being ignored.
Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
1Ti 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
