At 2&1/2 she is old enough for you to communicate with her about the nuk. When my daughter was around that age, we let her know that she could not have it anytime other than naptime and bedtime. When we finally took it completely away, we got her to throw it away herself and replaced it with the toy of her choice. This was after several months of having it only at bedtime. She was close to 3 when it was completely gone. I have known moms to get their toddlers to throw bottles out the car window to get rid of it as well. My BIL's mom took his pacifier and cut it into little peices and laid it on the floor by his bed. When he woke up and found that it was "broke", he accepted that it was gone now. I wouldn't recommend that method though. Good Luck to you!

I babysit for a 2 year old little girl. She started coming by me with a nukky in her mouth, I kept telling her it was yukky and after a short time, she no longer even asks for a nuk when here, but the minute her dad picks her up she asks for her nuk and he gives it to her, they left her nuk here last night and called at 9:00 p.m. to see if it was here so they could come and get it, she was crying and asking for it. The parents have to want to break them of it, it's not going to be easy, but what is,just take it away and deal with the tantrums that come with it!!! Try putting something on the nuk that would make it taste yukky to the child.

By all means do not subsitute it for snacks! That teaches a dependency on food and that can be very unhealthy. Start by refusing it at any part of the day except naptime and bedtime. Bite your tongue thru the tantrums but stick to your guns. Once he is a adjusted to that go to ONLY at bedtime. Then not at all. This worked for my kids. I also cut the tips off the binky to help break the desire.

Start by giving it to them with naps only, then at only bedtime. I watched a 4 year old with one, it ruined his teeth, rotted them, he had to have 6 teeth oulled out!!! So, get it away asap. I have also heard of cutting off part of the nipple on it. Or, go cold turkey. Easiest way for that is sending him with somebody else for the weekend, he will listen to them better I would bet!Thats how kids are! My godson stayed with me for a weekend so I could get the nuk from him, it worked!!!

Do you have a baby in the family if so tell your son/daughter that the new baby needs a nuk. tell them that they need to share with the baby so it will grow up to be like them. someone in my family did this and it works lol
good luck

I've not experienced this issue, but two of my friends have.

One just took them all away while her son was asleep. She told him that they ran away.

Another had a "going away party" and allowed her son to participate in the process of packaging them all to "mail" to new babies that needed them more.

Both methods worked. I would guess that the best method would really depend on the child.

We started substituting it with snacks. Or we would take her outside to play. Any activity that keeps the child's mind busy is helpful. Eventually they will only remember it at bedtime. Then you start doing things like taking them for a ride to fall asleep. Get them to fall asleep without it other places and eventually they will forget about it all together.

My aunt had this problem with my little cousin! She cut all the nipples off of the noonies so my cousin couldnt suck on it anymore and it worked! She told her that the neighbors dog broke it! hahaha!

Try it! It might work for you too! Good Luck!
