It depends on several things:
1. Is it squirrel hunting season in your location? Catching or shooting an animal out of the designated season for it can get you a fine at a minimum.
2. If 1 is yes, the season is open, or there is no designated season in your location, are you on your own property? If the answer is no, then unless you have permission from the property owner, you could get in trouble
3. If there is a hunting season, do you have a hunting license? This to could get you a fine.

There is a season for squirrel hunting which is after the babies are raised and on their own. Squirrel meat is quite good, floured and fried with onions and then make squirrel gravy. Apparently you are young or from an urban area.

Zorak says, "It depends on where you catch them. If it's in a public park, I think it stands to reason that would not be allowed. It also depends on the state where you live. Some states allow "vermin hunting" most anyplace, and squirrels are sometimes considered vermin, like possums, etc. Again, if you really want to do this, I would contact your local Games and Fishing Dept. or Conservation Dept. for specific answers. That, or you can try hitting the little buggers with your car, Bwaa Haa Haaa!!"

That's a good question. I would say it's probably pretty easy to get away with and unless a police officer caught you doing it you wouldn't get in much trouble. Even if you were caught, I don't think you would be punished, however, they could charge you with hunting if you don't have a hunting license. And many areas that are not designated hunting zones won't allow you to hunt. Your best bet is to obtain a hunting license and hunt squirrels.

You have not mentioned what kind of trouble you are apprehending. As far as eating it is concerned, those who are trained for survival in extreme conditions are taught that one can eat almost any living thing. So there is no health hazard, if you cook it properly. I don't know whether there are any restrictions on hunting squirrels where you live.

Where we live there is squirrel hunting, you can catch them and eat them. I never have but I know people who made stew from them, but they had to get several squirrels.

not as long as it is "squirrel season" In some parts of the country you are only allowed to hunt them at certain times of the year.

They do it down south all the time, I know a few people that catch and cook them. I did hear though the best time for hunting them is in the winter time. Less mites or parasites found on them.
