Sorry to say my reaction to seeing them isn't exactly positive. Now that you ask and I think about it, this is probably something I can and should improve on because it means I'm pre-judging a person without even knowing them. But you asked for honesty and that's it.

I believe that wearing a hijab is a personal choice. If you feel that you are in danger because you wear a hijab in your area then it would be your decision to wear one or not.
In general if a man or unveiled woman were to walk down the street most likely they would not get a second look, let along a comment. Yet if this same woman were to be wearing a hijab and walk down the street she is now marked as a Muslim and is more likely to be stared at, spoken rudely to, or a victim to violence.
A woman that wears a hijab is not a weak minded individual. She understands and respects the teaching in the Quran and Sunnah. She proudly represents Islam to the world. The majority of the Muslim women that I know are well educated and wear the hijab defying the stereotype that we are uneducated, backward and just do not know any better. These ladies are business owners, teachers, lawyers, nurses, PhD researchers, masters and PhD students, doctors, and engineers and wear their hijab. It is not done because their husbands or fathers told them that they had to. No it is for piety and modesty. These are strong independent women that I am proud to call my friends.

Muslimahs always have my support whether they wear only hijab or add in the niqab. In this Democracy you should be allowed to wear what you want, however YOU ultimately must be the judge about what you wish to do. I'm afraid that if someone were to attack a Muslimah in my presence for wearing hijab or the niqab, they'd get their ego pulled real quick in as compassionate a manner as I can muster, but they'd get it pulled. This is a land where freedom of religion also means you get to interpret it as you like, as long as nobody's causing harm or suffering, and hijab HARDLY causes any REAL harm or suffering.
Oh and just to head off arguments at the pass about terroristic use of it. Identification is a simple thing, a woman is identified and checked out by another woman in any kind of checks... IF they have to really be done. And I'm also against the profiling junk too.

as a Christian, i think a veil over the face is taking modesty a bit too far, but i don't really have a problem if Muslim girls want to wear a hijab. Personally i don't really see the point, because i don't think of the hair as a private part of your body that has to be covered. I think beauty is something that you should not be ashamed of. If you are dressing modestly i don't see the need for a hijab. But wear one if you feel that's what you want to do. Good luck xx

I don't have any problem with it one way or the other. It's merely a religious symbol, which means it has value only to people who practice that religion. I don't think you'll find many non-Muslim men who will consider you immoral for exposing your hair. On the other hand, it does identify you pretty quickly as Muslim, which in some ways can at least make other people nervous, if not downright hostile. So it has to be your decision.

If people want to wear the hijab I think that's entirely their choice, and nobody should be ashamed of doing so or forced from doing so by racism. On the other hand, I think it's disgusting that some women are made to wear it if they don't want to.

This is a more or less free country. If you want to wear a hair covering, wear one. If you don't, then don't.
It doesn't bother me if you decide of your own free will to wear it or not. It does bother me when women are forced to wear it by other people.
But if you include the face covering along with the hair covering, then I think you should have to atleast show your face for security reasons at certain places that require such security.
But in the end it comes down to, wear it if you want, don't wear it if you don't.
And for the reasons about covering up being that men can't control their lust.......that's just bullsh**. It's the man's problem to control himself. I think that men are actually putting themselves down with this reasoning.....saying that we can't control ourselves.

Hijab is for modesty and self protection... ask yourself this... how much the reward of God for wearing it in a society that hates you for being a muslim...
make your choice ... Islam vs. Society's acceptance...
and wonder what you will answer to God when asked why you stopped (did not... same thing)...

It depends on how strong is your faith towards Islam. A strong Muslims will never give in to threats and provocation. The order of Allah swt supersede all other command. However, if U choose to fear ppl more than Allah swt, it's your own choice.

there are various motives why the wearing of the hijab is appeared at with suspicion interior the West; one among them is in part using modern-day international affairs and fears approximately radical Islam. yet another is with the help of the fact to Westerners, the hijab, burka, and different outfits worn by ability of girls human beings in Muslim international locations symbolizes oppression against women human beings; inspite of each thing, in many Muslim international locations, women human beings have fairly few rights--no longer with the flexibility to force, bypass to college, bypass out of the homestead by ability of themselves, no longer have the flexibility to vote, etc. It relies upon on the rustic and how conservatively they adhere to Sharia regulation, of path. something so straightforward as a head overlaying--which isn't even unique to Muslim custom--symbolizes all that oppression of girls human beings which the West frowns on. women human beings have gained many rights interior the final a hundred years and Western custom is happy with that; it truly is seen substantial progression. it is to no longer say that wearing a hijab prevents you from being assertive or having rights--that relies upon on the rustic you reside in, no longer your faith--i'm in basic terms putting forward the perceptions of many Westerners the place the top headscarf is in touch. in my view i think of it truly is a stupid ingredient for non-Muslims to obsess touching directly to the top headscarf... yet it is in basic terms me.
