when they have been saying it for years? The Pope finally says You aren't christian if you're protestant. The protestants have been saying Catholics aren't Christian for years. What they can dish it out but they can't take it?

For the record I'm not even Christian. I just think its stupid to be throwing a fit over something they say as well.

Ah, the shoe pinches the Protestant toes now that it's on their little hoofie instead of us "non-Christian" Catholics!
Edit:
What the Pope actually said is that all churches outside Roman Catholicism are "wounded" in the sense that they don't acknowledge the authority of the Church that Christ established and its leader. I'll have to read further to see if there's anything about no salvation outside the Catholic faith, but so far, that's not what I'm getting.
Edit #2
Aww, look at all the cute little thumbs-down -- Protestants feeling the pinch, I take it?
Just FYI, this is what it feels like when some of you accuse us Catholics of not being "true" Christians. You've bashed us again and again in this Forum, not caring whether or not you hurt a brother and sister in Christ. In fact, some of you are doing it in your replies to this post.
Next time before you hurt a fellow believer -- no matter WHAT denomination they belong to -- think back to this and learn from it, OK?

No, that's not why-we can take lots of abuse-we do every day, just here on Y/A. The Roman church has always said it was the one true religion, but the Protestant Reformation says different. If the Pope thinks that insulting me and degrading me is going to make me run back to the fold-he's very wrong. The Catholic Church isn't as perfect as he thinks it is. That's a very strange way to woo converts.

I am a Christian and I don't care what the Protestants or the Catholics say. If you read the history of both groups, it isn't pretty. Constantine enforced Christianity as a battle cry. He was afraid his army was going to face defeat and knew something about the Christian faith and so thought it would be to his military advantage for his Christian faith. So he got some priest and Bishops to Baptize his army. Constantine was the first to promote forced conversions. This would go on for a thousand years. With the Catholics it was "be a catholic or else". The Martin Luther, Calvin, Zwingli and other "Protesters" formed their groups and THEY ADAPTED THE BELIEVE OR ELSE attitude also. History books state the the Protestant reformers tortured many folks. The Catholics and Protestants can say what they want...I don't care.

The battle of which religion is right and which one is wrong is as old as man. The battle of which aspect of Christianity is right and which is wrong, goes all the way back to the death of Christ. It literally went to the point of discussing how many angels could stand on the head of a pin. I have studied the histories of religions from the beginnings of the concept to the present and don't see much good in any of there.
There is an interesting quote in a book I am presently reading that goes like this:
"Experience has taught him (Julian, a Roman Emperor) that no wild beasts are so dangerous to man as Christians are to each other."
That quote is attributed to Ammianus Marcellinus in the early 4th Century CE, or AD, whichever one you use. It was certainly true then and it is certainly true now.

You are Pagan?
Have you ever met a Gardenarian Wiccan?
If you have, you will understand the conflict between Catholics and Protestants.
It's all about our relationship with Jesus. You and I both know that. Before Jesus the Hebrews argued between the Pharisee's and the Sadducee's. Pagans against the Wiccans. Then you have the American Indian Movement Against anyone claiming to have any contact with the spirits they worship.
It is human nature my Pagan friend and I am afraid the new age movement is also infected.

You say you're a Pagan!
What A Lie!
There's no way you're a TRUE Pagan.
I'm a true Pagan!
You're an Atheist because you don't believe in Baba Yaga!
LOL
Just kidding Sister :)
See how silly that sounds Christians?
So the Protestants should get off their soapbox and the Pope should take off his funny hat, and they should go have a laxative together.

I commend the Pope, it's about time the Catholic Church came out and said what they believe. If you're a Christian, the worst thing to be agnostic about is Who Christ is and What Christ Taught. I'm not Catholic though, I'm Eastern Orthodox Christian. We hold a similar view to the Catholics in this issue though.

You have to think about the big picture here.Think about heaven as a room with many doors. On each door there is a name, catholic, presbitarian, baptist, etc. So,when a person dies he goes to the gates of heaven and Saint Peter asks what belief he was and they tell him. He then points to the doors and says to find their door ,knock once and enter. Now here is the good part. Once they have entered they find out that they are in one big room amongst all the other catholics and protestants that are there also.
There are only two religions in this world , Gods and mans. Which one do you believe .

We are dealing with some fundamental doctrinal differences.
By the way, I do not say that a Catholic is not a true Christian. So, please realize that your statement is generalizing and therefore implying that as a Protestant I must not believe that a Catholic can be a "real" christian. That's just not true in my case and many of my fellow Protestants would agree as well.
Here is the point I'm trying to make. Just as I take exception to this statement, and you take exception to the statement about the Catholics and the Protestants, that shows you why there is so much controversy.
Because we seek to defend that we don't believe this way, or feel angry because we are accused of something that is not true. Still others will take it further and attack to counter their viewpoint.

Well, to be strictly accurate, only _some_ Protestants hold to the claim that Catholics are not christian, and a good chunk of those are on the lunatic fringe represented by, for instance, Jack Chick. So, the rest of 'em, the ones who were willing to co-exist with Catholics for all these years, probably feel a little betrayed right now.
Granted, the Church is perfectly within its rights to make such a claim, as any religion can, but it doesn't exactly help everyone get along.

Other way around. This is second hand, as my husband is the ex-Catholic. He went to Catholic grade, elementary and high school, followed by Villanova, a Catholic college. Until he graduated from college, he was told consistently that only Catholics can be saved and that anybody else, whether or not they believe in God and Jesus, will go to hell.
Now that he's left the Catholic church, making us Protestants, we believe that God alone will determine who are His children.
