When people think of a 'sweet' red wine, one would normally turn to Port. This is really a fortified wine, but has a high level of sugar and so tastes sweeter than other wines. You can pick up a reasonable bottle of reserve or ruby port in a supermarket for £3 or £4 which will be a lovely after-dinner tipple. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, try something from the South of France, such as a 'Banyuls.' This is an appelation in the Languedoc-Roussillon region which is the only one in France to contain Grand Cru vineyards for sweet or fortified red wines.

Asda, in my experience, is not the best supermarket for the more obscure wines. Waitrose, I have found, is miles ahead of all others for their selection in terms of quality, diversity and value, whilst Sainsbury's comes a close second. Shop around a bit and don't be scared to ask instore for advice.

Hope this helps.

I want to correct you a little bit. Shiraz is not sweet and not always 'affordable'. A Shiraz is generally fruity, peppery, and can have undernotes of smoke and tobacco. I think you mean fruity, not sweet. Chile has a bunch of nice, inexpensive Syrahs (same grape). Montes Alpha is one that's excellent quality but is generally under $20. Washington's Walla Walla area may also have some Syrahs that suit your palate. Cougar Crest, Isenhower, Fidelitas, K Vintners, and Owen Roe all have Columbia Valley or Walla Walla area wines that are fruity with underlying spice. Going even fruitier, and potentially slightly 'sweeter' are the Shirazes from the Mollydooker label. These start at about $25 and go up from there. Another wine from Down Under is the Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz blend. It's under $10 and my local Costco carries it. It'a amazingly good for that price point. Zinfandel may also be something interesting for you. NOT white zin, but good ole red Zinfandel. Seghesio has a wine in the top 10 of Wine Spectator's Top 100 this year - it is a decent brand to seek out. Cosentino also makes several tasty Zinfandels. I also recommend finding a good wine shop or grocery store with a great wine person and telling them what you like. They often give the best recommendations of anyone out there. : )

Washington is a major and all know city and is certainly worthwhile send a vacation or perhaps visit this city. with hotelbye you will discover more. One of many representations of Washington and the entire America is the popular White House, the official house of the President of the United States. Your home of each and every leader except George Washington, it had been formerly created by James Hoban in 1792, and after being burnt down by British allows in 1814 was rebuilt in 1818. While tours of the inner offering the East, Blue, Green, and Red Rooms; the Ballroom; and the State Dining Room should be reserved well in advance, every tourist to Washington will want to see this legendary creating, at least from the outside. Next door to the White House will be the detailed 1833 Greek Revival Treasury Building and the 1871 Executive Office Building, one of the very striking previous government buildings in Washington.

Ask at your Asda if you can speak with the wine Manager; ask him to recommend the sort of wine you like.
If you find it isn't sweet enough for what you want, you can always do as the French do - add some sugar. You won't get secondary fermentation.
