LOL!!!! I live in CT and I swear I feel the same way. I buy tomato after tomato..they are either hard, dry as a bone inside, or just has no flavor whatsoever.
I bought one good one...once...from Big Y. So there's hope.
If not, find a local place that sells ones from a garden/farm. A local farmer's market or find a friend that has a garden and bum offa them. That's what I do!! =)
Cherry tomatoes are normally a little better...but they are small, no good for a lot of things.

Look for heirloom tomatoes. Most of the ones you buy in the store are genetically engineered to last longer and ship better, so they are picked too early and no consistency by the time you get ready to buy them.
Heirloom tomatoes are ugly, but taste great and have a short shipping and shelf like so they are usually ready when you buy them.
If you can't find heirloom, try the ones with the vines still attached.
Finally, when buying tomatoes feel them to see if they are ripe, but more importantly put them up to your nose and smell them. If they smell very "tomato-y" they're probably ripe.

Go to a farmers market and buy them (the mom and pop ones that are along the side of the road have the best produce, imho). I, too, am sick and tired of the anemic, pale red ROCKS being passed off as tomatoes in the grocery store.

Visit your local nursery they have all kinds of seeds and kits to grow several vegetables and herbs inside the house that grow all year long.
You could also buy your tomatoes and keep them in a paper bag on your counter for a few day before you use them,, to allow them to ripen fully,

LOL. Vent much? I understand your problem. Tomatoes are picked before completely ripe and shipped. I'm growing my own this year and will have way too many, most likely.

Next spring, buy a big pot, a big bag of bedding mix, and plant your own tomatoes. Keep them watered and fertilized and in the sun. You won't have that problem any more.

unless you know someone who grows them or have a farmers market, you really can't find a good one. they taste like plastic unless they are home grown or from a local farmer.
