I would like to cancel a job interview that is scheduled for later this week, because I have accepted another job. The only problem is, the interview is with a company I am interested in working for later on (it is located in another town and I would like to wait until I am finished with nursing school next year to travel). How do I cancel without making them hate me?

Also, I know that I would not accept the position even if they offered it to me. It's just too much travel to handle while going to school full-time and having a 3 year-old. I just need to know what to say!

Nothing to worry. Call and cancel as its only polite. I had the same problem once and worried needlessly. The company never even remembered me when I saw them after awhile and gave me a job even though I cancelled first time round. I worried for nothing.

As long as you cancel the appointment courteously, and with at least 48 hours notice, there won't be any hard feelings. This is a business rather than social interaction so the rules are a little different. They understand about job searches and someone just got to you before they did, that's all.

Let them know you've been offered a position that you are going to accept. Thank them for the opportunity to interview and wish them luck on their staff search, and that should do it.

Well, the best way is probably to tell them exactly what you just wrote. Schedules change and so do feelings, they wont hate your guts if you tell them that you wish to complete Nursing school before going to work for their corporation. If they ask why you scheduled an appointment in the first place you can just say that you jumped the gun or whatever your reason for it was. Sounds like you should make all options clear in your head before jumping into things, but thats just a suggestion.

You need to make a call first of all and you need to attach a letter to your application or resume. The company may keep this on file. It is ok to tell a prospective that you have accepted another position and" would like to withdraw you application for the position of xxxx. Thank you for your consideration" They understand that you are seeking employment and may have other offers. They will not hate you.

Call and tell them thank you for the job interview opportunity but you have accepted a job with another company.

To be honest, tell them the truth and add alittle lie. Tell them you need to cancel your interview because you have accepted another job in town because of unexpected family reasons at this time are keeping you here. Tell the manager,"Thank you for the opportunity for a chance with working with the company and that I hope at a later date, when the timing is better, I will have another opportunity to apply because I am very interested in working for the company.Thank you for your time"

Every employer knows that people are looking at more than one job when they are job hunting. Simply call, thank them for the opportunity and tell them you have decided on another position offered at this time. No one is going to hate you, in fact they will think well of you for notifying them....most people just don't bother to show up or call.

Just call and tell them exactly why you can't come. You've had another job offer that is closer. Although you'd love to work for company XYZ, at the moment the job you've chosen suits you better than the one you applied for with XYZ.

You call and say that you have accepted another position that was just too good to pass up. In other words, tell the truth.
You could also mention that you plan to gain skills at this close, local job that you would love to apply toward your "dream" job at XYZ firm after you graduate, and ask with whom to keep in contact.

Good luck!

Whatever you do, dont stand them up! Simply call, tell them you have already accepted another job and thank them for whatever they've already put into seeing you.

You wont go on a blackball list or anything. Just show integrity.
