DON"T TAN! Especially if you're fair and burn easily, you are at a much higher risk for skin cancer. Use a self-tanner, there are lots of great ones on the market and they won't damage your skin the way the sun will. Do yourself and your skin a favor and don't sun-worship, either outside or in a booth. Use the self-tanner to get a golden glow, then use a high SPF sunscreen when you go outside.

Since you are fair skinned, it might work if you do a little each day 30 minutes or so. It might take a while to get a tan, so use the bottled stuff until you work up a god tan. If you stay out too long you will burn and when you burn, THAT is when you the potential to get skin cancer. It's already late in the season, so what I would suggest for you to do next year is to start tanning as early as April to be ready for May and June. Just read a book or talk on the phone, use your laptop or whatever. Go out every day for 30 minutes. Not only will you gradually get a tan, but the vitamin d you get will improve your mood and give you more energy.
Don't believe the cancer stuff, if you stay out a little a day (20-30 minutes and make sure it is not between the hours of10-3pm as those are when the rays are strongest) and don't burn, you will actually PREVENT all major forms of cancer. The sun gives you vitamin D which many Americans are lacking and this vitamin D helps you prevent all the major forms of cancer. The pill stuff just doesn't compare and doesn't always absorb in your body. If you stay out for hours at a time, of course you might get skin cancer, but I doubt you will. Natural sunlight helps with mood, absorption of calcium (so calcium is basically worthless if you don't get your vitamin D)
But, just make sure you wear a hat and don't get sun on your face. Sunblocks are ok, if used with a hat and make sure it contains avobenzonote. But I wouldn't trust my face to sunblock as every few years another study comes out that says a certain ingredient doesn't work that well and at least with a hat you can get double protection. Make sure it is wide brimmed, though. Baseball caps don't cut it. The sun ages you and you can just use bottled tanner for your face so it matches the rest of your body.

Go to a professional salon and do the spray on Tan, it can look natural and you can choose how dark you want to be. If you are looking for something you can do yourself their are great daily moisturizers with a hint of self tanning lotion, which are super easy to use and do not look fake at all- such as Jergans Natural Glow moisturizer and Oil of Olay, and Neutrogena, the only problem being that is hard to reach your own back if you want an all over tan. You could also just try laying out in the sun but be careful to wear sunscreen of 15 and not to stay out too long in the beginning.

Start very early, like in spring (I began my tanning sessions in March), and try to do 1-2 hours lying in the sun outdoors per week. Once you're starting July, you'll be nice and tanned (like me). To keep getting darker, you just keep up the same schedule. Oh, and always apply tanning lotion with a SPF of 5 or lower (mine is 2). For tanning your face, do not apply anything except olive oil...this makes you burn, but also is very good for your skin.
The best thing about this schedule of tanning, going at it slowly, is that your tan lasts almost all winter!!

I don't like to brag but i am really tan I think this is because I go in the water a lot. And as you may know already that water attracts sun shine. So my advice is to go swimming but remember to put sun tan lotion on!

Go for the stuff in a bottle!!!!! Sunbathing is a killer for the skin, particularly skin like yours which burns easily. Tan beds are just as bad.

Hi, if you want to get tan then you can try a spray on tan from drug stores or a lotion, such as, neutrogena or Coppertone. I love jergens lotion I tried it, it smells great and gives you a nice tan.
