when i join the army reserve will i recieve basic housing allowence while i am in basic training.(yes i am married)

You will only receive BAH and BAS when you are on active duty. When you perform Basic Training, Annual Training, or when you get recalled to Active Duty you get these benefits. When you are just drilling you only get your salary plus the option to purchase SGLI life insurance. You should get the married BAH rate keyed to your area for your rank, presumably E-1 or E-2. Reserves get BAH and BAS in basic training because they are still maintaing a home off base. If you were going directly to active duty you wouldn't get it because your housing and food would be provided for as an active duty soldier living in garrison. Policies constantly change so check with your recruiter or the chain of command of the unit you will be going to to be sure of the exact benefits you will get.

Unfortunatley, no. not even active duty gets BAH, because the army is giving you a place to live. I don't know if you will get it at all in the reserve. I reccomend your wife look into possibly working overtime while you are gone if possible, or even a second job in fast food or something if it is going to make money that tight. I had to move in with my inlaws when my husband was in basic

If you are on active duty longer than 30 days, you receive full BAH, based on where your wife is living.
