That's a ugly situation because if he lies to you about pointless things what would he do in a more serious situation were to occur. I guess your first step could be to confront the situation tell him how you feel about him lying and what you would like to happen in your relationship. The foundation of any relationship whether its friendship, family, or dating is honesty and if you can't believe anything they say how can it work. From that point if he doesn't put any effort into changing leave him alone. Dealing with a liar will cause more trouble then salvaging the relationship is worth. Good luck!

By pointless and irrelevant, I guess you mean small lies that are without reasonï¼ Hopefully this means they are just petty lies, maybe something is wrong...
Find a chance to bring up the topic and try to ask why he's doing that - in a way that's as nonthreatening as possible. It might also be a good idea to see if he's been behaving strangely recently... Unless this thing about telling lies has been a habit all along >.<

Little lies too often lead to big lies. If you love him - start calling him on it and ask him why he does this. Is it to impress people? Is it to make himself look better? Is it to hurt people? Is it to avoid hurting people? What are the reasons for these lies? That will help you find out how big of a problem you may have on your hands...

First of all if someone has to tell you what to do on this then you need your hand spanked. No-one wants to be lied to. How much do you love this guy? Enough to have him keep doing this to you. Think of yourself and it will save you a lot of pain in the long run... Good Luck.

Leave him. That sort of behavior is deep seated and he is NEVER going to change. Would you want to spend time with a guy that you could never fully trust, never know when he is or is not telling the truth? I certainly wouldn't.

im a guy ive actually done that to a girl before my appoligies but i did that and got caught up in a lie, so have him get caught up in a lie and see what happens it will make him fell bad and embarassed and you will feel great and you dont have to break up with him when that happens you can decide after what to do when he gets caught up in a lie , hope this helps

Leave him. don't spend your valuable time and life with someone you can not trust. It can always get worse with liars.

tell him to cut it out or dump him. If he'll lie about stupid little stuff imagine what other kind of stuff he'll lie about???
