I work at a business now making $800 every two week and I just got offered a job at a bank making about half of that (between the pay cut and the hours). I hate my current job and have decided to take the bank job because I will have more opportunites to move up plus I also plan on going to college to get my degree in accounting. I can afford the pay cut. Am I making the right decision??

I should have mentioned before that I am 19 years old living in Louisiana (about 30 min. from New Orleans). Another reason that I would like to take this job is that I really like handling money. Weird I know, but I like to count it and make it all neat and balance it. Its one of my many OCD's. lol

You are definitely making the right decision , there's nothing worse than waking up in the morning and getting that "fck i have to go to that fkn place" feeling . Its great that you can afford the drop in wages , which is even more of an incentive , not every-things about money and if you put your self first now, you will reap the benefits in due course. As you are planning to go to college and eventually into the financial industry, employers rate experience above most things and as your obviously motivated you'll do great , some times making changes can be a little scary , don't worry you are doing the right thing for YOU , hey good luck from me xxxx

You don't say what your present job is or what state you work in. To me, the most important thingis that you LIKE your job. If you can afford the pay cut (lucky you!!) and this offers advancement in your field, GO FOR IT!!!! Follow your PASSION!!! Too many of us either can't or don't follow the PASSION. Remember that you will be spending at least 1/2 of your waking hours at your job! Make it something that both interests you and challenges you! I am a middle aged gal and I know plenty of people who regret not chasing their PASSION! You don't mention your age, however, it sounds like you are young! It doesn't matter anyway! I have been an avid gardener all my life and am just now wiggling around the idea of going to school to learn more. I keep putting it off (I am 52)! I should follow my own advice and GO FOR IT!!!!! Best of luck!!!!!! Yeah for your decision!!!!! I heard once that when you are old it is not regretting the things you did, but regretting the things you didn't do! You already know the answer! TRUST IN YOURSELF!!!!

If the new job offers more advancement opportunities than your current, and you can handle the pay cut then I'd say it's the right decision. Working at a job you hate is not healthy - physically or mentally. Good luck!

You have to decide what is more important...can you deal with your current situation for the current pay? or is it really bad that you are willing to take a pay cut? Will you be happy in your next job...you might tell your bank boss your situation and you may get more money

Only you can really answer but many times one step back can lead to two steps forward. Sounds like you have a well thought out plan. Now your challenge will be to follow through with earning your degree. The degree will significantly increase your earning potential.

Do what you love - love what you do!
Working at a job you hate isn't worth the stress and agony. Go for the new job and work your way up the ladder.
