The trucks with manual injector pumps need red diesel for lubrication to the fuel system. The new diesel today has none what so ever in it. They call it Low Sulphur Diesel. If all you use is this low Sulphur crap on a manual injector pump diesel, in time it will eat itself apart because there aren't any lubrication properties in the diesel. The new electronic emission controlled so-called diesel engines of today run better on it because they don't rely on oil for there fuel system to run properly. If you run the old red stuff in the new engines, the system would probably gum up like it would if you ran it in a gas engine.

Sorry, you ought not to buy it. It is tax reduced/free for off road use say by farmers. If you want to use it for off road purposes, I think you would have to prove that you need it for business purposes. I can't imagine the excise boys being happy if you are using it for pleasure, or just getting from A to B.

illegally from council yards/Farms or any where operating off road plant vehicles...if you plan to use it on a road going vehicle? you are only allowed to go to and from a service depot and that must be pre-booked....DERV stands for Diesel Engined Road Vehicle and is coloured yellowish gold! so the excise and duty inspectors can nick you when they see RED...

Most farmers will happily supplement their meagre earnings with a bit of black market diesel. They can't rely on EEC subsidies alone, poor things.

Well, it all depends on why you want it? For legitimate use a local oil/fuel merchant will oblige and for illegal use - well, don`t even bother.
