I think it is definitely considered soliciting. The people are there to sell a service. Everyone knows that most converts will tithe.
Solicitors aren't allowed in my neighborhood. Police have run out the magazine crews before but we haven't had a problem with JVs or similar types. I wouldn't report them to the police though unless they come back after I tell them I'm not interested.

the practice of going door to door to increase intrest in anything is soliciting... Doing so in public is also soliciting...
Even trying to sell things is soliciting...
I'm not sure what other term you had in mind, but it can't replace the truth that it is soliciting.

Oh, no. It's really soliciting. Just because no money changes hands (at the moment) doesn't mean there isn't something being sold to someone who was just staying home.

I don't see it as soliciting, strictly speaking, but I'm opposed to it.
I guess there are cases where someone is converted that way, but I strongly believe that it's what we live - rather than what we try to persuade other people to live - that will reach them. I'm opposed to "selling" the gospel. I'm highly opposed to "high-pressure selling" the gospel.
Gospel means "good news." Good news doesn't need selling. So, I guess I question the beliefs of people who feel the need to pressure people into "buying" the Good News.
The whole thing makes me queasy. :o(

It's soliciting plain and simple.
I see no difference between it and people trying to sell me other garbage.

I definitely consider it soliciting and solicitors are unwelcome on my property...
Of course it could also be called annoying, aggrivating, irritating, etc...

Its preaching. When we, JWs go door to door, it is NOT soliciting because we are NOT selling anything.
