The Americans are not make-up wearing girls as you put, they are brave men and women who are doing a very important job.

The 5 to 1 ratio refers to training. I'm an Avionics technician in the RAF and I repair various systems on aircraft (radios, navigation, radar, weapon aiming, flying controls, line mechanics and marshaling). I have worked closely with the USAF in the past and the job I do is spilt up into about 6 separate trades over there. I really do the equivalent of about 6 USAF engineers.

We are like this, not because we are harder or more manly, but simply because of manpower. The US has more people than it can shake a stick at and so have the flexibility to separate the trades. In the UK we have quite a small military and so we have to bunch up. 10 or so years ago, my trade was split into 3 smaller trades, and I'm about to go on a course to join another two trades together (Avionics and Electricians), so I'll be doing the job of about 10 USAF engineers! Phew!

in actual fact i have been relabialy informed by an army staff sergeant that 1 brit soldier is worth 10 US soldiers, for the reason the brits multitask on all jobs ie 3 can work a radio station yet it would take 15 US to do the same job, NO LIE.
Plus brits do the job quicker and with less whinging, FACT.

i am a serving British soldier and i believe that the British Army is the best in the world with regards to tactics and training but the Americans would say exactly the same. I have the utmost respect for all members of the US forces regardless of want underwear they like to wear. here's to a long lasting US and British alliance

For soldiers putting on makeup they need help..not a desirable result believe me..I think there is nothing cuter than a Brit in uniform..they are gorgeous without makeup...especially the boys....but hey, one just has to flashback to the lady holding the leash at the prison and if she had make up on, migod what did she look like in LA?

I would say a Soldier is a Soldier, except for the Soldier that saves your life. As far as I'm concerned, the latter can wear Victoria's Secret bras under a snorkel outfit.

It is true. There is 1 US sailor to do just 1 job on ther ships, that's it. Whereas over here our sailors have a whole list of jobs. They just have the massive amounts of manpower to throw at suff!
