Mormon is just a nickname for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. How can someone say we aren't Christians if we have Jesus Christ in our church's name?

because the do not call them selves Christians :)
just like Catholics, they say they believe in Jesus, but the call them selves Catholic, and refuse to be called Christian

i have known Mormons, nice people. they have told me the biggest difference between Christian and Mormon is the fact they were on the western hemisphere when Jesus was in the eastern hemisphere. Christians were with Jesus when he was on Earth, and Mormons were on the other side of the planet. They also told me, once Jesus rose from the dead, Jesus came to the western hemisphere to visit them before going back to his Father in Heaven.

Mormons have all kind of wacky rules and beliefs not even IN the Bible, so what if thats what there name "says they are".... Some random guy named Joseph Smith created his own book for the The Book of Mormon....come on, thats complete crap and I dont believe in Joseph or his little cult at all!

Mormons dont even believe in the Diety of God being the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit which is clearly stated in the Bible and any Christian believes that

He is a false Prophet!

YEAH youre right Mohammad is a FALSE PROPHET also!!

The Mormon religion was founded less than two hundred years ago by a man named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ and told that all churches and their creeds were an abomination. Joseph set out to impose a brand-new religion that claims to be the “only true church on earth.” The problem with Mormonism is that it contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Christians have no reason to believe that the Bible is not true and adequate. To truly believe in and trust God means to believe in His Word. And all Scripture is inspired by God, which means it comes from Him (2 Timothy 3:16).
Clearly there is only one way to receive salvation; to know God and His Son, Jesus (John 17:3). It is not done by works, but by faith (Romans 1:17, 3:28). When we have this faith, we will automatically be obedient to God's laws and become baptized out of love for Him, but not because it is a requirement for salvation. We can receive this gift no matter who we are or what we have done (Romans 3:22). “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Although Mormons are usually friendly, loving, and kind people - they are involved in a false religion that distorts the nature of God, the Person of Jesus Christ, and the means of salvation.

1. Mormons believe in God as three separate entities rather than as a Tri-unity (Trinity)

2. Mormons believe that God was once a mere mortal who became God

3. Mormons believe that someday, the worthy ones of your group will become gods of your own plants

4. Mormons believe in three levels of heaven: celestial, telestial, terrestial.

5. Mormons believe in marriage for eternity...not "till death do we part"

6. Mormons have secret ceremonies as do the Masons (Jospeh Smith was a Mason)

7. Only Mormons in good standing can even enter the temple or have a marriage sealed in it. In fact, you need an ID card stating that you have a right to enter.....

8. SOME breakaway groups of Mormons DO still practice polygamy....that's why they're in the news alot.

LOL!!!! All these answers are pretty funny. Sorry, but they are! I love how people can take something and twist it to mean what they want it to mean, or how they can spew things they have heard from someone that was totally biased against the church anyway!!

I really don't care if people think I'm Christian or not. Does it matter to me? Nope!! What matters is my own personal relationship with God and Christ.

If people were to take the time to learn what we REALLY believe, and not what they have heard from other people, they might learn a few things. But, it's human nature to buck at something that isn't in your core belief system. I don't hold it against them. They can believe what they want. Maybe sometime, in this life or the next, they will learn- as we all will- what the truth really is. Maybe we will be surprised, maybe they will. Who's to say?

Oh.. to answer your question as I see it: We don't believe in the Trinity, we don't believe in the "same" Christ that is in the bible (whatever that means!), and we have funny practices that others don't have.

If just mentioning the name of Jesus made a person a Christian than there would be a lot more Christians out there. It's not the mention of Jesus' name that determines who a Christian is; it is who they define him to be. And how LDS define who Jesus is, is what separates them from orthodox Christianity. Mind you, it was the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith who made the distinction between Mormonism and Historical Christianity.

Christians have been calling other Christians not Christians for centuries.

However, calling Jewish holocaust victims Mormons by virtue of posthumous baptism, that's something only Mormons have had the audacity to do. When caught, they apologized and allegedly discontinued the practice on said people, but here's a clue- if it was wrong to do to holocaust victims, it's wrong to do to EVERYONE. Stop disrespecting other people's dead!!!

By the way. I was emailed by several Mormons here claiming consent is sought for said rite. Who consented for Joan of Arc and Gengis Khan? Don't make claims to me unless you want to cite a source.
And furthermore, I think it's saad you guys gave up polygamy to get more popular. Sad that so many died to move somewhere free and you guys just changed the rules....but hey, respect for the dead and the CLDS are not hand in hand, are they?

The reason is that they believe that you believe in a different Jesus than they/we do. Because you (assuming that you are Mormon) do not believe in the Trinity that you are denying the deity of Christ which makes him a different Jesus.

I personally disagree. There are a lot of things that the Mormons believe which I disagree with, but I am perfectly willing to call them my brothers and sisters in Christ.

My biggest fear for your salvation is the salvation by works doctrine which I am told is very much a part of the Mormon church. We are saved through Christ alone. as far as works are concerned, we are bankrupt. There is no way that we can pay the dept that we owe by good works, because we cannot undo our bad ones. If all we have done is told one little white lie, we have fallen short. This is why we need a savior.

Yet, we do the works. It is not to gain salvation, nor even to keep our salvation for Jesus said that we cannot be plucked out of his hand in John 10:28. We do the works because we love God. If we screw up, Jesus is the propitiation for our sins. (I John 2:2)
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Rom 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Because they aren't Christians? The president said that the God of Mormonism is not that of the bible. That is a very good start.

Personally, I think I'm going to stop trying to convince people that as a Mormon, I'm Christian. It doesn't do any good. I don't care what others think. If they believe I'm going to hell, it doesn't make a difference to my salvation. Thankfully we will all be judged by a perfect and just God who will be able to sort the sheep from the goats.
