How long did she live? How did she die? Did the mother of the one son of God not merit further biblical mention?

Yes, yes people. I know about Mary and the cross yadayada. Celada b says there is scholarly evidence she moved to Ethiopia. Ok, what scroll or evidence is there.

To Beautiful. Read the question again dearie. Nowhere did I say "mother of god".

Why don't more people wonder why such a pivotal person in the course of religious history would be given less air time than, say, the OT David? Or Delilah?

gg. I've OBVIOUSLY read both the OT and NT, thank you very much. I read passages of the bible every day. I am an informed Atheist and I read just SO I can ask questions that invoke some thinking.

You have obviously never read the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts of the Apostles.
While Jesus was dying on the cross, I don't know where any of His half-brothers and sisters were, but He told the Apostle John to take Mary home with him and be a son to her. She then, was in the "upper room" at Pentecost with Apostles and other disciples when the Holy Spirit fell on the group. The Bible doesn't answer all your questions but many of them are very clear. One thing is clear is that Mary didn't remain a virgin because she and Joseph had a normal family as any other couple after Jesus' miraculous conception and birth.

The Bible doesn't say how long she lived. You must remember that in those days, women weren't counted. The fact that the women in that Bible that ARE mentioned, had accomplished something for the Lord.
After giving birth to Jesus, she raised him, and had other children with her husband. That is stated in the Bible...James was Jesus' brother. The James that wrote the book. Mary (Jesus' mother) was also at the cross and was there when they took him down, and was there when the Angel sat on the stone that was in front of the tomb where Jesus was burried, and in the upper room at the infilling of the Holy Ghost of the (I was taught) there were 200 men and women in that upper room praying.....and that Mary was one of them.

Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist, and raised him. as I said, women weren't counted then, and it's because Eve IS the first one to have sinned against God, and being considered second class, is part of womens curse. (I think)

Mary was a blessed women. She was there when Jesus was crucified and saw him after his Resurrection.
Mary gave birth to at least 6 children. The bible names the boys (4) and says Jesus has sister(s). Math 13: "54Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?" they asked. 55"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"

She is mentioned only once in the book of Acts. Then never again in the bible. What does this mean? She was not sinless (she called God her savior, savior from what?) She was not taken up to heaven without death as many RCC teach, this is not biblical.

There is a ton of biblical mention of our blessed mother in the bible, the New Testament is full of her stories.

Amazing at how many are led astray about the Virginity of Mary, even the Protestant reformers Calvin and Luther accepted the perpetual virginity of Mary. The belief that she and Joseph had other children is a modern one only.

The DaVinci code is fiction, come on people!

Peace!

The Bible does not provide any particular information as to what handed off to Mary after she's stated in Acts financial disaster a million or 2. All we are able to assert for particular is that she became a sinner--regardless of each and every thing, she had fun interior the salvation that God offered (see Luke financial disaster a million)--and God chosen her to be the mummy, humanly talking, of Jesus. She of course enjoyed Jesus, or why else could she have risked each and every thing to be at His crucifixion? there is not any doubt dissimilar conjecture accessible, yet very few info. greater importantly, have you ever trusted Jesus Christ to be YOUR Lord and Savior?

According to the Muslim religion Mary is the purest of all women not only of her time but for ever. The Quran says that she worshiped God when she was young, she stayed all day in a cave doing so. She was provided food and drink by miracle without looking for it or seeking it. She was promised to give birth, but wondered how come if she is not married. She did and had to flee with her son seeking protection when the Roman Emperor gave order to kill all baby boys. When Jesus died she spent her life in mourning.

If you actually read the Bible, you would know that she is mentioned several more times, most notably at the crucifixion when Jesus tells his disciple John that he will be Mary's son from now on and that Mary would be John's mother.

She went on to raise a family with Joseph, there is some mention of Jesus' brothers and sisters in the bible. There is also some evidence to suggest that Jesus was not her first born, which would negate the whole 'virgin' thing

From the Cross, Jesus placed his mother into the care of the apostle John whom we know made his home in Ephesus in what is now called Turkey. Jewish law demanded that other children take care of her but she did NOT have any!

Mary's perpetual virginity is highly symbolic of Jesus who claimed that he was the Alpha and the Omega from all eternity. Therefore, no-one preceded him from the womb and no-one followed him.

Yes, Mary was present in the upper room waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:14. She is the one who taught them how to pray for His coming since she alone had the experience in doing so.

Yes, Mary was assumed into heaven. Why not? Weren't Enoch and Elijah taken up to heaven without tasting death?

We Catholics revere Mary but NEVER worship her. She interceds for us just as she did when at Cana when she mentioned, "They have no more wine". He instruction to the embarrassed couple? "Do whatever he tells you".

spice g,

Your comment that "noone including jesus himself could care less about her" is entirely false!

As recorded in the Gospels, in addition to his prayer to God to forgive those who were killing them, his last thoughts were for the well being of his mother:

John 19: 26-27
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy amother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Likewise, is there any woman in the history of the world who is more revered than Mary? Absolutely Not!

In fact, her house still stands to this day in Ephesus (Turkey) and is revered by both Christians and Muslims!
