I saw a guy hitting his DOG in the park yesterday if it was a KID he could be ARRESTED because he hit it hard!

Now CHRISTIANS how do YOU treat animals? They're part of GOD'S CREATIONS and you think we were given DOMINION over them but even if we do eat them does that justify treating them so HORRIBLY?

there is no real justification for abuse but the bible does tell us to spare the rod as it relates to our own children. i think the point is to not be excessive. i have never hit an animal and i have never spanked a child but i do have friend who have very large dogs. i've objected to them beating up their dogs but they always explain to me that the dog sometimes bites and if they get away with it they will have dominion and continue to bite. one friend in particular has two rottweillers and the male is very aggressive. the dog decided to come up and bite the hand of another visitor and that person beat up the dog a little. again i protested but all of the men who were around and withness it said that there is no choice but to fight back. while it may seems cruel, i guess the question is how will the dogs respond to each other in the wild. i understand that there are trainers who preach 'better' ways of training pets but often times, the trained behavior does not last very long. this is especially true of dogs who tend to be aggressive. humans teach animals human like behaviors like shame but in the wild, animals always fight to establish the alpha and when a challenger come up, the alpha tries to defend his/her position in combat. that being said, while i do not like hitting animals/ dogs, if you do not establish dominion then they'll walk all over you.

Why are you directing this at Christians? That does not make any sense. What makes you think that animal abuse is Christian-specific? How do you know that this guy was Christian? If he was, then what makes you think that he is representative of the majority of other Christians? You'll find it impossible to cook up any legitimate statistics that show that Christians hit their pets more than other people, because it simply isn't true. Most Christians, like most people in general, are appalled by animal abuse. You are right. Pets are part of God's creation, and most Christians respect that. We love our pets, too!

In any case, guess what? I don't know where you live, but if it is in the United States, you could have that guy arrested for hitting the dog, too. Animal abuse is against the law. You are right. It is wrong to hit your pet.

There is a wrong way and a right way to disipline any creature. As a christian I am an advocate of spanking. But, in spanking alot of parents cannot handle the job. Meaning instead of 1 or 2 whacks they have to beat the child or animal. To me that is abuse. The man you saw hitting the animal in a man way should not have an animal. He just couldn't stop and just smack the hind quarters once he had to abuse the animal. There is a very very fine law between punishment and abuse on this subject.

Of course it's wrong to beat animals!

I love my cats, and I couldn't imagine being mean to them. It breaks my heart when they do something they're not supposed to, and I have to punish them. My husband says I'm too soft with them, but I can't help it. They're just so small and helpless.

How could ANYONE think of abusing an animal?

And why is this question only directed at Christians? Are you assuming that the man who was beating his dog was a Christian?

It doesnt matter what religion you are. Hitting your pets is ILLEGAL and people who do it should be thrown in jail. Now eating certain animals is different I guess there is a double standard there. There is a difference between cows and domestic house pets. If you see someone beating on their dog I would call the police or else you are just letting it happen.

If it bothers you so much, call an animal cruelty society. Or do like the Terminator and blow his head off. I personally am sick of wives who are more affectionate to their pets than they are to their own husbands. They have it backwards. Jesus never gave special treatment to animals. He cast out a bunch of demons from a young man and allowed the demons to enter into some pigs and they drowned. Poor little piggies.

Was the person's pet a cow? Wow, I say we take the guy out and stone him , like they did as punishment in the bible. maybe cut off the hand that beat the animal.. Or make him/her live with you for a day..

I bet you're fun at parties

It is very cruel to hit animals. They have feelings too. My husband and I adopted one very cute rabbit, and we dote her like our daughter, pamper her until she always get her way whenever she lost her temper. :) Well, animals should be given right to live with dignity. People should learn to respect animals. There should be a law stating that the owner who ill-treated animals will be fined or jailed.

Muslim
in Islam there is a beautiful story of a prostitute who would enter heaven because she fed (gave water to) a dying dog ..

so i guess this example should be enough to show how muslims are to treat animals...
