I know that there are ways to get massages/hairstyles done cheaper, by getting them done at a cosmetology school/massage therapy school, etc. Is there a way to get my two kitten's shots for a bit cheaper than the vet, like perhaps from a supervised veterinary student? How would I even search for something like that? Thanks!

I should probably point out that I'm not trying to go to a cheap place that won't do it right, I'm just looking for some kind answer on whether veterinary schools do some sort of program with the senior students or if it's a fairly easy thing to find a local clinic with professionals. If anyone is from the St. Louis area like me and knows of somewhere, let me know!

And I'm not looking to administer them myself, I wouldn't want something to go wrong-though I appreciate the people who have given me that option!

Try your local pet store! I know that Petco (for instance) offers low cost vaccinations.

You can go to a large pet supply store or a ranch supply store and ask for vaccines. Be sure to always get the ones that have the most complete immunity. They're easy to give, I do it. Here's how: I usually have someone help me by wrapping the kitty in a towel (claws hurt!) Then I gently grab the skin of the neck and pinch, then carefully put the needle in (make sure you don't go all the way through) and pull the plunger back a little to make sure your not in a vein. If you don't see blood your good! Then just push the plunger in and your good. A couple of tips I've learned over the years. #1: warm up the vaccine (it's refrigerated) for about an hour before you give it, then it wont sting. #2: Distract the kitty and they may not even notice #3: Rub the injection site afterward to distribute the meds. (most places you need a vet to do the rabies, but look for ads in the paper, they do specials all the time)

Good luck

You can check with your local Animal Control Department to see if there are any low cost clinics in the area. If there is a Vet school near you check with them to see if they administer shots as part of a student program. Be careful if you find really cheap prices because there has been reports of false vaccines being used by people claiming to be vets just to make money.

Farm supply stores sell the stuff you need for around $5 and you give the shot. Most will tell you how to do this, it not hard. BUT!!!! Some towns have local ordinances that the Rabies Shot has to be done by a VET and you have to have a paper to show this. They DO NOT accept an individual doing this as being acceptable. So, you may need to check with your town/city to know what you can do and what a VET has to do.
Also, you can call your Local Humane Society and they have some cheap references.

Check with a rescue. A puppy you could just give shots yourself, however; a kitten can be tested for the feline diseases before vaccination is given for the first time. If test is confirmed negative you can get the shots and do it yourself.

I have often given people the opportunity to get all vetting done for the pet at the price of an adoption fee. That way it goes through us we know where the pet is and that it was properly taken care of at the fraction of the cost to do it yourself via a vet. We get everything done for the pet including spay/neuter and microchipping for our cost. Just to help the pet.

Your ultimate guess is to call the vet you intend on utilising and get an estimate. With the estimate, i could nonetheless plan on somewhat greater, purely in case. Vet expenditures variety surprisingly. as an occasion, one vet in my city costs a pair of $one hundred for a spay/neuter. yet another vet (comparable city) costs $250+ for the comparable technique. For my kittens, the photos ran approximately $20, neuter for the only became $70, spay for the different would be approximately $a hundred and fifty. you apart from mght could desire to discern interior the place of work call, and an examination if mandatory. Ours costs $18 for the place of work call, and $18 for the examination. Get the estimate, yet a secure discern could be between $a hundred thirty-$2 hundred. sturdy success!

Many pet supply places such as Foster & Smith sell vaccines that you can administer yourself. However, rabies vaccines usually need to be administered by a DVM for legal reasons.

I know you can get initial puppy shots from some local hardware stores. Try Tractor Supply Store or something along those lines. Of course - you do have to know how to give the shots yourself.
