My neighbor is 25 years old and he was badly injured a a car wreck Friday on his way to work. They were not sure if he was gonna live. Now, he is going into surgery tommorow to see if they can keep him from being paralyzed. They have a 3 year old baby girl and now they are both out of work. How can I help this family? Whats the best way to raise money for them?

i'm answering this question mainly because i think it's wonderful that you have taken an interest in your neighbors' welfare. what a generous person you are! i was also in a bad car wreck a few years ago, and no one offered any help and i really found out who my friend were... believe me.

i am thinking that organizations like the Salvation Army might be of help, or can give you ideas... there are also VFW organizations who raise funds... and sometimes Moose Lodges and The Elks or even The Masons..... if nothing else, someone from this type of organization can give you ideas to raise money for this family.

bless you.. you're a real gift. take care.

Go to the local bank and open a account for the benefit funds - you don't want to be accused of stealing funds later (I've seen this happen).

A benefit is a great way to raise money. Have a pig roast or BBQ with a suggested donation. Ask local businesses to donate items for raffles. See if the local grocer or butcher will donate some meat or deli items. Have a 50/50 raffle. A DJ or band may even perform at no charge.

Many local businesses may let you put a poster in their window. List both the benefit details and the location of the bank that they can make contributions directly to.

Get in contact with the reporter that does the human interest stories for your local newspaper and get him/her interested in this family.

Finally, if you are able to help them personally, by watching the baby, taking them a meal, or just sitting and listening, this will be a blessing to them as well.

Namaste, and thank you for wanting to do something to improve the world for someone else!

I would go to your local fire department and police departments where you live. They are great help in getting involved for a good cause, especially when a child is involved. Are you involved with a house of worship? You can see about a church getting involved in a collection for them. I'd contact a local food pantry for donations of food.

You can also help them by being there, babysitting the 3 yr old if Mommy needs some time to herself and maybe helping with some dinners and dropping them off. Just be sure to pace yourself in what you do.

I think just letting them know that you care about them will mean a lot. Before you start trying to organize any fundraisers, you might want to see if you can get in touch with them or someone who's currently helping them out and see if there's any way you can chip in on a smaller scale (babysitting, housework, making/buying food, etc.). You could also do an online search for some organizations that help people who've been through what your neighbor and his family are going through and see what they suggest.

You could put out benefit cans with a picture of him and a brief description on what happened to him at the local hardware, grocery, dollar, beauty shops, etc. for people to donate money. Have a benefit dinner at the local Moose, or VFW club set a certain amount for dinner. You could have a silent auction, ask local merchants to donate things and then let people bid on them. Thoughts and prayers are with them and Good Luck, it is very nice of you to want to help.

Prayer is a great way to go. Diff. churches raise money for thing like that. If you are involved in a church talk to them about raising money for this family. Report the situation in the news paper and tell ppl. that you are raising money for the family. ppl will respond to that. I'm sorry for what has happen and I hope I have been some help to you.

get the story out, people can be more generous than you expect. If they have a church you could start there for help or start with your own church. Car washes, cake sales anything like that can raise money but most important is to get word out that they do need help and you will be surprised at what can happen.

In my area, there are alot of local bands that will hold benefit concerts. It gets their name out There are also bars/restaurants nad local parks that will alllow free use of their facilities for such events. You can also put collection cans at you local grocery store, collect cans and bottles, host a penny drive. There is alot you could do.

PS If you let us know what area you live in someone here may be able to help.

I would suggest a church function, and if you are not in a church than I would suggest you get permission, you could hurt their pride them more than help him. But you could cook meals for them and than talk about ways to help them earn money. Bakesales, Making Baskets, Raffletickets, Car Washes, Sale Dinners. We sold Dinners and wash cars. We profitted a good bit of money. Wal-Mart is the best places to set up. I would talk to the manager at your local Wal-Mart to get more advice about have it there.

Also, you might be able to drive the lady to different chruches to request a donation. Some churches pay for rent and such things if they know it is going to a good cause.
