Long ago, people thought that a child born deformed or retarded was the result of parent's sin. Even today, parent's are tormented with the thought of what they must have done to deserve a retarded child. How would you feel if you did EVERYTHING right, and for whatever reason, you gave birth to a retarded or deformed child? Would you lay awake nights wondering what it was YOU DID?
Your analogy of the situation is better than you think. Just like parents want to find ANY reason other than accept a random, natural occurrence for their challenged child, some people want to find a human reason for the mild climate change we are experiencing.

I guess the reason people keep beating the drum that global warming is a natural cycle(which it is) rather than a man-induced crisis(which it isn't), is because it's affecting legislation around the world.
The Kyoto protocol is something that could have unimaginable costs.
The USA gets a bad rap for not signing on to the Kyoto protocol, but we are largely self-regulated and clean up our messes. Take a look around the rest of the world. We are more environmentally conscious that just about anyhwhere. You just wouldn't know it from the way hollywood seems to hate humans....especially Americans. They make me laugh when these people waste more energy than anyone.
Nuclear power in our country is clean and regulated. How about Chernobyl? That could not have happened here because we self-regulate.

Children are born mentally retarded for a number of reasons, not all of which are caused by their parents. In your case, who knows. But, the comparison is not valid because you've already made your mind up that the global warming opponents are wrong.

I see the climate as getting warmer and cooler many times, while the child with the birth defect will never get better.
A warmer climate as a good thing. Certainly better than a cooler climate. Certainly better than an ice age. Birth defects are not good.
I agree than all the CO2 we are putting in the air is upsetting the PRESENT balance, but in the long run it is a tiny blip in the constantly changing world climate. When all the coal and oil is gone, the problem of too much CO2 being added to the air will go away too. And even at the highest peak level of CO2 that will happen just as we burn the last coal and oil, the climate will not be changed as much as some people here seem to think it will.

I think the point you may be missing is that if it is a naturally occurring cycle and not the result of man, then there is no reason to take action.
You are probably correct in pointing out that the end result is the same.
By the way, good answer 3DM

I don't think that's quite an appropriate analogy because the Earth was 'born' just fine. It's more a parent whose child is born healthy, but who repeatedly beats the kid until he's about to develop brain damage. The kid will still be mostly okay if the parent stops beating him, but if he keeps it up then brain damage will be inevitable.
I think that's a more accurate analogy. Global warming happens naturally, but it happens so slowly that it's just like the aging process.

Believers in Global Warming were born normal and healthy and then became retarded.
Can you explain how glacial ice has shown thousands of years of a history of warming and cooling cycles?
Can you you explain why polar ice caps are melting on Mars and other planets? Could it be that the sun is in a warming stage?
You're the "genius", you tell me.

Not the same thing. Global warming is caused by us using cars, planes, trains, and keeping warm in the winter...so we can use our computers which need electricity.
So we can believe that there have been civilizations prior to ours that got wiped out in the last ice age. Seeing that we are not in an ice age, it must be warming up outside. What caused that? Consider that there have been several ice ages - with warming periods between them - so what did the warming?
Would you rather that an ICE AGE was coming? Then we would be looking for and burning up oil, coal, and other like crazy to keep warm(or moving to Cuba)
