If this is the only medical condition you have, it is probably going to be difficult. Fibromyalgia is still thought of by many doctors and a condition that does not exist but is something that is in your head. Many even feel that you are just plain lazy. But it is doable with doctors (specialists are better) that know how to fill out the paperwork. Many doctors have screwed up things for their patients with vague information on forms.

If you have other conditions, sometimes it is easier to get disability because of the totality of problems.

What might be of bigger issue is how disability is being defined. It is often defined differently by governments vs. insurance companies. Make sure whoever fills out the paperwork knows exactly how disability is being defined and give your answers to reflect this.

That depends on your level of disability. Many people who have fibromylagia and have disability actually get it for other co-existing conditions.

The government doesn't want to recognize fibromyalgia as a disability because there are so many millions of people who have it. The disability system is designed to reject claims, not to make it easy to get. Many people spend years appealing before they are finally given disability status.

Disability isn't much money and many people find that they have no choice but to work or they will end up homeless. So its a very important decision and not be be considered without weighing all the issues involved.

Yes, but you will probably have to get a lawyer to fight for it. My stepmom was denied 3 times and they've spent their savings trying to meet filing deadlines, hiring lawyers, and combing through mounds of paperwork.

They told her it wasn't a real diagnosis or a disability. She was denied long term disability through her employer and SSI. She had to go through arbitration for the LTD, and won a temporary allowance until the SSI issue could be resolved, up to 2 years I think. When the 2 years were up, they stopped payment.

They're still fighting for SSI, and she's physically and mentally incapable of working. She can't drive, they had to pay for a mobility device for her to get around (completely out of pocket) because her arms aren't strong enough for a wheelchair. Her mental capacities are starting to go, so she can't work at home over the phone either because she can't remember words.

Luckily, my dad got a better job and they didn't lose their house. They live in South Carolina, if that helps. Your state might be different.

I consider that all of us do the great we will headquartered on our expertise/expertise and "the hand we are dealt". Although fallacious offerings are in most cases made, probably the most sincere clarification you may ever deliver is, "It gave the look of a well concept on the time." We inhabit a rock that hurtles by way of house at top speeds round a ball of fireplace. It's style of comical while you feel approximately it. The factor is, we're all in this flying rock in combination and no one has any manipulate over the course it takes, and our lives rely on this rock preserving its path across the fireball and no longer getting too near or too a long way away. We haven't any manipulate over the huge matters, so we attempt to manipulate small matters to remedy ourselves with the phantasm that the small matters honestly make a change. I understand that sounds style of pessimistic, however I've observed that with reputation comes peace. As folks, we generally tend to tackle burdens and preserve ourselves accountable for matters which are out of our manipulate. Can you steer the Earth? I can not.

It depends on Where you live (UK or US)
I have no clue about the UK

In the US... any diagnosis isn't necessarily a disability

and if this is your only diagnosis, the outcome for disability is highly unlikely in most states... For example, folks in AL can even become quadraplegics due to an accident & they still aren't approved for disability, declined several times & then sometimes even with an attorney, unable to get... same situation in Nevada.. got on SSD very fast

There are major differences in where you live

You have to prove that you are unable to work with a history of this condition from your medical doctor. Your medical doctor is going to be the key to you receiving disability. It depends on what your doctor writes That will convince disability.

most people with Fibromyalgia have to fight to get their benefits. Some have to use Attorneys.
