Perhaps it is because you have not received God's Holy Spirit who gives the gift of faith. Ask God to give you his Spirit.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

You are that the cross roads. A place where there is another part of yourself that is looking for something more or detachment. You feel you must believe in a god all the time or be punished.
The willingness to understand or accept something is entirely up to you. Stop the pressure, let it be for now. We all have moments of detachment and this too shall pass.
As the breath of life, you are at an exhale and soon you will inhale the vibrancy of what you seek.
You are not abandon nor forsake. The outside world makes much noise and it can ground out your ethereal thoughts.
Take this time to rest and enjoy and you will again remember.

It could be one or both of these reasons. (1)Maybe it is because you are afraid God will be disappointed and drop you when you slip and make a mistake. It's a weird thing that people go through when they are about to make that serious step of abandoning themselves to Jesus. (2) You may be involved in certain activities that bring you satisfaction and you feel you may have to give them up to serve God in good conscience. These Two reasons are the most prevalent reasons many would-be Christians deal with even I had to get a grip on that. Here is the answer if it's any of the things I mentioned. I am not going to be too wordy but if you have any other questions email me. Satan is throwing everything in his arsenal at you right now because he knows that when you hand your heart to God he can no longer have you join him in the lake of fire also he knows that the Holy Spirit will come to stay with you to INSURE that you see God at the end of your life. Did you here what I said? Not you not the Devil not angel not a Pastor, no circumstance will separate you from God when you hand your heart to HIM. He will work with you on any and every issue that's troubling you when you accept Him. Also you will have the Holy Spirit to comfort you and guide you through your journey.~God Bless

I felt like you do before. I had answered several alter-calls and begged Jesus to come into my heart again and again. But nothing happened, I didn't "feel" any different, and according to all the other believers around me, I should feel something. So, I prayed and begged god for a sign to show me that he was real and really did love me, like everyone said he did. I asked for small but specific signs, so there would be no mistake-nothing. I got a fleece sweater and laid it out, like I had heard of in the bible to try to get some kind of responce, again-nothing. Feeling very disappointed and ignored, I started questioning further. I focused on the details, I read parts of the bible that they never read in church and realized that even if god was real, he was a mean and terrible god that I no longer felt was worthy of anyone's worship. I was angry for a while thinking about all of that until I had an epiphany......."god" is just a fairy-tale and a device used as a scare tactic to keep the population under control. As soon as I realized this, I instantly felt a relief and peace that searching for "god" never gave me. So, good luck in your search, from the bottom of my heart. If you find that feeling you're looking for in a church or temple, go with it, and enjoy your faith. But if, like me, it never happens that way for you, take heart. Atheism might be the answer for you too.

I don't have an answer but know exactly how you feel. I put my faith in God to help me to fix some aspects of my life and that was a year ago and I am starting to doubt my faith. I can't believe that these things are his plan. And I guess I have a problem in the whole reason why he lets children suffer. Sorry I didn't help but it is nice to there is more than me out there :)

Don't stop questioning. You can't learn if you don't question. What if you're right. What if this life is all we have? Then you need to start making the best of it.
The reason you do not have faith like a child is that you are not a child. You understand things. Try taking a step back and thinking about things on your own. Forget what other people think and think for yourself.

Everybody goes through dry times and moments of doubt. It passes.
Questions are good, but you also must realize that just because you don't understand something doesn't make it untrue. It simply means that you don't understand everything yet.
These articles might help. Please don't just nod your head and move on. If you really want help, I would strongly recommend that you read and practice what is being suggested here.

In response to "RackhamRachel" below, not everyone throws a temper tantrum and turns to rebellion and disbelief whenever God does not give them exactly what they want or ask for.
I believe that what you are going through is just a test to see if you are sincere in your belief about God, or just looking for something to make you feel good. God did not promise anyone a specific "feeling" -- if that is what you are looking for.

What are you afraid of? Something is holding you back. Could it be some sin in your life that you refuse to let go of? Maybe the thought of submitting to Jesus is not your idea of fun. I don't know. Yet, the Apostle Paul exhorts Christians to "Examine Yourselves, whether ye be in the faith: prove your own selves" ( 2 Corinthians 13:5). You need to continue to pray and examine your life to see what is holding back the greatest gift you will ever receive, Jesus. Accepting Jesus, to me, was the easy part. Dying to my flesh, carrying my cross is the hard part. But thankfully, I have the abiding grace of Jesus and His strength to carry me when I am weak and He keeps me journeying on to that better country, heaven. As the slogan for Nike says, "Just do it." And if you are obedient / faithful, your faith will blossom and one day you look back and exclaim to Jesus, " I'm so glad to be your child!" Blessings to you!

WORSHIP... spend time in His presence. JAmes 4:-Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Have and expectancy that He is going to show Himself strong in every area of your life. Don't just sit around and wait for God...EXPECT something great. He is a great God and is capable of exceedingly above what you could ask, think, or even imagine!!! Read Psalm 62:5, settle it in your spirit that you are going to expect something new from God daily. But most of all Worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Let Him love you...

You must get into His word, the Bible. Nothing else. No Christian Living Book or self-help you need to satturate yourself in God's word and then you shall find him. The Bible tells us that Faith comes from hearing the word. So hear the word by reading it.
