We are getting ready to paint our living room. We have a big sectional sofa that is dark green. A wall unit entertainment center that is a lighter moss green with brown glaze. The carpet is tan. Trim is white. The adjacent room is a light green.

Yeah, I know...lots of green.

What color should we paint the living room? My vote is for a "hot chocolatey brown", but my husband wants an off-white or light tan. I plan to accent the colors of the sofa, tv center, and walls with pillows, decor, and curtains.

What color do you think would be nice. You don't have to stick with the colors we picked.

I agree with your husband's idea of light tan, but I disagree with off-white. It's too institutional looking. Instead of a really light tan, how about a more full-bodied tan? Or khaki? Then your green would go very nicely because khaki does tend to be tan with a bit of a greenish cast. I think your accents could include the chocolate brown you like along with some that match the wall.
Best wishes!

The dark brown would make the room too dark with the dark green sofa. You need a lighter wall color (like tan...but not too light that it almost looks white) to make the sofa pop. Maybe something a shade or two darker than the carpet. If you like bright colors maybe your accessories could be a combination of the tan/green with another bright color like orange or yellow.

I think the hot chocolatey brown would look nice if you get a lot of natural light in the room. If not, the color may be too dark and you may need the lighter off white color to make the room look larger and brighter.

I know that using certain colors can affect your mood, like dark colors can make you feel depressed or not very energetic, but cooler colors like pastels, can make you feel more tranquil (the cooler colors like blues, greens, purples, and browns) or up beat (the warmer colors like yellows, oranges, and pinks). I would use a lighter blue, like a robin egg blue, you can also get a paint with a white base, but just a hint of a color to it, I have used this in more than one of the rooms in my house & when the sunlight hits it you can see the light yellow in my living room, or the light purple in my daughter's room. I love it! Good luck! :-)

I would go with a deep rusty wine color.

The burgundy line goes very well with the green colors you already have going on in the room. I would accent the room with the color you have around the molding. This will really make the room pop.

I think dark brown and light brown stripes would look nice. You can paint dark brown followed by light brown in vertical stripes. Hope this helps you. =P

Crem Broule' or slightly lighter. I painted my living room lighter than bedroom and looks great next to eachother. Smaller room, lighter brown....the bigger, darker!

look on a color wheel online and you dont want to pick colors side by side for example picture your couch color on the wheel and choose the color opposite to it in order to make your furniture stand out in the room you dont want it to blend in and become bland, I like your choice.
