Because psychics are fake. They profit from vagueness, so that the listener interprets their response. For example, they may say that they see their client with some money in the next six months.
When a neighbor pays them for the lawnmower they bought from them a year ago, the client then says, 'oh, the psychic must have been right -- I have some money."
I have played with "acting" like a psychic with friends and they've been amazed and truly think I'm talented, but I was only being very general. Try it yourself, tell them "You see a job change or promotion related issue," or "you or someone close to you has an important health issue" or this one works very well, too, "you have been thinking recently about a relationship." When they respond positively, ask them about it. They will tell you, and nod your head as if it was your idea.
It's fun to do and very easy! (Now, just don't swindle people out of money!)
John Edwards' Crossing Over was an absolutely hilarious show, too bad he took advantage of people. But watch how he "fished" for information. Absolutely classic.!

You're about as likely to find a living Civil War veteran than you are a genunine psychic. They don't enter lotteries or play casino type games because they don't know more than anyone else. Most have been proven frauds. Check out :

Psychics use a set base of knowledge of people and practice the ability to manipulate that knowledge to suit the traits of an individual. They don't predict the future, that would be call Prognostication, which is not synonymous with "Psychic Sense".

They aren't psychic. We can check things like "tuesday's lottery numbers" for accuracy, but not vague insights into the future. They'd rather stick to the latter.
