You'd think they would have at least stopped at a 7-11 for directions or something.

There was a reason God made the Israelites wander in the desert for 40 years. After all of the miracles that God had shown and done (parting the Red Sea, manna from heaven, etc. etc.), they still grumped, groused and complained, at one point even saying "We were better off in Egypt":. Guess what?? God got P. O. 'd (who could blame Him) and He basically said "That's it, I've had enough of this - *none* of this generation is going to live to see the Promised Land. When this generation dies out, their descendants will settle it." Think about it - the total area that they were wandering in the desert for 40 years was probably no bigger than the state of Connecticut. They were lost *purposely* by a God who was sick of their bellyaching, short-term memories, and general unfaithfulness.

If there was a pillar of fire accompanying us and mana raining down from Heaven and if he parted the sea so that we could escape our slave masters and could strike a rock in the desert with a stick and cause a stream of water to come out of it then I think that I would continue to follow him. Of course, I wouldn't be like one of the faithless ones who after we got to the border of the promised land in 2 years got scared because of the giants and the walled cities and turn around to go wander for another 38 years.

This is one of the best questions i have encountered and the answers are great some of the answers i can tell are from a non christian point of view. God do have a sense of Humor God i will follow or fight hard to stay on his path forever if i get lost along the way and believe me i will stumble i am only human. You know what i have so much faith in him if i get lost i am not afraid to reach out to him asking for forgiveness and for his help in finding my way.

That's the point. The Israelites did not follow God completely or they would not have traveled in circles around the same path for 40 years. From the way you phrased your own question I guess you are one of the majority that wants to pin the blame on God. Again, God is not to blame for our actions.

If your Q begins and ends with ONLY THAT which you ask....if "that" is ALL there is to it....Then of course NOT!

Keep in mind, Moses was clearly chosen by YHWH to lead the Israelites OUT of Egyptian captivity. MANY miracles were done in the Exodus of HIS children; the Chosen.

SO... IF:
The PROPHET of GOD predicted all of the pestilence,
Predicted the water turning to blood,
Predicted the Passover AKA the "CREEPING DEATH".....
and THUS FINALLY....as a mighty vessel of FAITHFUL LEADERSHIP UNTO YHWH; succeeded at all these PROPHESIES, and in GOD's might; led the Israelites thru the DIVIDED SEA which collapsed after the LAST Israeli foot was on safe ground, and drowned the mass of Pharoah's military......

YES!!!!

I would follow.

But I am a Gentile, and live in the year 2007. So, By faith, given by the grace of GOD; I trust in the blood of YESHUA for mine atonement....

I "really wonder why" your question did not include the WHOLE TRUTH? No idea? Half truths and twisting of TRUTH is what you all aim for; just the blind leading the blind, into a pit u go......

so sad.
:*(

If you know the gospel, and still refuse to believe.....u might want to give it another shot. Time IS of the essence.

Would you have a choice? They weren't lost. All of the non believing generation had to die before the Israelites could go into the promised land.
