Suppose Pres. Bush orders a nuclear war, will you obey his orders and explode those nuclear bombs? The President is the commander-in-chief for war. Americans are the actual fighters.

Obedience will put you in Heaven.

Disobedience will still put you in jail. Someone else will obey the Pres. and Congress to explode those nuclear bombs.

If Congress approves it, there will be a valid reason for it.

Throughout history democracies have had the problem of delay. To solve any problem it takes debating and argueing by the month to get any law through.
The Romans realized this back in 500 BC, so they would appoint a senior senator as dictator for the duration of the emergency.
This same line of reasoning is used today. That's the reason that the president has full control in the time of war.
Now you're saying that the army should disobey the president's order if he decided to explode an atomic bomb. For one thing, who would make that decision ? How can he say that he's better informed than the president ? Atomic bombs are made to protect the country. In extreme conditions, it's only common sense to use them.
Disobeying the presidents order to protect the country is not a sign of "courage". It could easily be a sign of stupidity and self destruction.
Remember disagreeing with the president does not automatically mean that he is wrong, and you are right. With all the information at his disposal, the chances are about ninty-nine percent that you are wrong.

WW2 was like 9/11 for us, the United States did not want to enter the war, however, December 07, 1941 Pearl Harbor was attack. Like 9/11 no warning, 2,388 killed, 1, 178 wounded, because embargoes and sanctions on oil that the US put on Japan because of the war in Europe. And if it was not for the attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, World War 2 would have not ended. How many more US and British troops would have died from the war? To be a leader you have to make decisions, President Truman had to do what was best for the country. It was most likely the hardest decision he made but he had to make a choice, Was it going to be them or us? Through out history, innocent people have died, the United States has see it share. Examples the American Revoution and Civil War. Ask yourself this: Back then, Would have England done the same thing?

Nothing quite like being a fear monger and stirring the pot of the "what if's". The way I see it, this question is absolutely no better (or less absurd) than some of the liberal propaganda of the elite media. If we used it, "they" would use it, and then "the others" would use it.

From a Weapons Technician AND a Navy Veteran, it's not going to happen. WE will not instigate and use the "nuclear option". Been there, done that, and STILL paying for it.

Don't be a fool and jump on every piece of propaganda you see on the news or allow yourself to get bent over the "what if's". This is the REAL world, and there is FAR more of a chance of us taking another terrorist attack here on the homeland than there is of our Commander in Chief giving the order to push the button.

For those who have the orders to push the button, it's just a job. It's what they've been trained to do, and ther are enough safety protocols built into the system that it will be no accident.

Well, since I don't hold the key to any nuclear arms, I suppose I would not be ordered to do that. I suspect that the well-trained men in the armed forces that are in control of the weapons will follow orders.

By the way, Congress does not need to approve the launch of nukes in defense of a nuclear attack on the US. It would take too much time to get them to vote on it. If there is an issue, the President has been given the power to handle it.

In such an event there would be nothing we could do unless you as an individual desert the army then unfortunately you would have to go to prison. I myself am tired of the war and wish that the army we are trying to help build over there was strong enough to help their own country we have taught them how to use and given them weapons so that we can get our family and friends home and everyone says that our country will never get that bad off so we should all pray for everyone involved and for the sake of our Mother Earth and only home that we ALL have that a Nuclear War doesnt happen that is why we have the UN to prevent such a catastrophe.

Well americans is way to general of a term, the troops are who carry out the orders and fight for the Americans freedom, we are the only country to use such an inhuman means as retaliation so what makes you think that it wouldnt happen again? By no means do i support it, or any weapon of mass destruction. But believe or not, there are ppl that would love to be on an airplane when the bomb drops. Its kinda of crazy. If it is a direct order for a bomb. It will be followed out:~(** Have a good one PeAcE

In case of National Emergency....to be judged by the President, of course...George Bush has declared himself omnipotent. He and only he will have the right to take action. He could order your home to be entered at any time of the day or night, without warning, without a warrant. You yourself could be dragged out of your home, arrested, hauled away, and kept indefinitely, without an attorney, without charges.

If he ordered a nuclear strike and any person opposed such an order, he could call it an event of National Emergency and shoot him on the spot.

Congress will have no power to halt him and will not have to be consulted about his actions, even if he ordered a nuclear attack.

This declaration of the powers of the presidency are new and was recently announced by the White House.

The powers of the executive branch have always been more all-encompassing during times of National Emergency, but in this instance, President Bush's declaration is unprecedented...and will be handed down to successive presidents unless it is somehow repealed.

Boy a few people have no clue how our military and nukes works. The President can order a launch of Nukes without Congress OK. Thank God.
It is the officers of the Military who actual push the buttons so the avg Joe out on the street can just set back and watch the fireworks.

Yes, I would launch. Congress has no say in the matter. The President has the authority to order a launch. I signed a contract with the govt and will hold up my part of the deal.

I have read all the previous answers and I find it all interesting. For example legitimately, as a country cannot go to war without a declaration of war from congress. And that has to be requested by the president. There is one person who can stop the hole process.... and that's the guy with the football. If he runs off with the black case... no launch codes.

Just thought I would interject
