Yes, you should get ECNR stamped on your passport before leaving if the status mentioned is "ECR". I would suggest you to contact the passport office near to you.

Recently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India have been simplified the criteria for ECNR. Submit your passport along with the attested copy of your educational certificates (matriculation and/or above) and you will get back your passport on the same day.

I think that Graduates do not require ECNR, but an endorsement stamp has to be fixed by the Passport 0ffice to that effect.
