What is the longevity of a Hyundai Elantra? Is it 150,000, 200,000? Or way less than that? Assuming proper maintenance. I know the resale isn't very good on Elantras (any reason for that?) Please, any info would be helpful. I am looking at an Elantra with about 73,000 miles for $4000 and want to know if its worth it. Thanks

I'm not sure the value of those 1st 2 answers. It sounded like the one guy was saying Toyota parts are too expensive, which of course isn't true at all. He is right that parts for an older Hyundai are likely to cost 20-40% more then those for a Japanese/USA brand, but once you include the labor its not much more overall.
Yes, the Elantra should definitely make it to 150,000 miles and maybe more. I suggest you have a mechanic check to make sure there are no major repairs coming up like timing belt, shocks, brake rotors and esspecially transmission, if those check out, then you've found yourself a good car for less then 1 year's car payment on a new car and much lower insurance cost too...plus the car gets solid gas mileage.

Young Man, I understand that Hyundai's have a 1000,000 mile warranty for the original owner. If it's re-sold or transferred to another person the warranty drops back to 60,000 miles.
Factory replacement parts costs for any off-shore car is simply outrageous. For instance: Starters, alternators, electronic ignition systems, transmissions cost 40 -50% more than Cars built in the USA. I don't want to discorage you facts are facts.
If you want to buy anything I'd consult a back issue of car cost of ownership ratings in Consuners Report in your local library.
I would think you'd want to be aware of potential problems down the road.

It's worth about $500 bucks and that's being generous! Hyundai = Garbage!
