why is the umbilical cord also called the lifetime of the fetus?

The reason is simple.Before the child is born the umbilical cord is the main source of life.Is the only connection between the mother and the fetus .No umbilical cord no life.Also what ever take place with the mother the fetus is going to get it. If she is depress,sad,anxious etc. the feeling goes directly to the fetus.
