i told him maybe shes not the right person for you then and he said i dont wanna lose her.
i felt really sorry for him and hes in such a bad state could you help me on how to cheer him up of help him?

If the arguing is over just funny nothings (which is doesn't sound like what this is) then I wouldn't worry about it. If she's arguing over the same thing over and over again then, unfortunately I don't think she is going to change so your friend should move on. He might not want to lose her but no one deserve to be treated bad in a relationship, NO ONE.

Some girls like to argue as a playful challenge to keep things fresh and find their place within the relationship. Is it mean spirited?

He needs to speak to her about the problem. He needs to tell her that he is not interested in a relationship that consist of needless arguments. Only he can talk to her. It is not your place to interfere, although I know as a good friend you would like to help.

stop meddling with their relationship leave them alone and they would be fine
u cant do anything to improve things between them u could only worsen their situation
