The actual mechanism is caused by the fact that the growth hormone in the plant's stem is broken down by sunlight. Think of a plant with the sun shining on it from the right. Because the hormone is broken down on the right side, it does not grow as much, while the left side, in the shade, does grow. Thus, the plant bends its top towards the right. Fascinating, isn't it? Certainly not what most people would have expected!

That's the nature of plant it's call Phototropism. It's a kind of chemical reaction that the stem cell of a plant will grow slower when they expose sun. the other part of the stem that expose with small amount of light will grow faster and thus causing the plant to grow towards its light source. This is what I think personally and I think that my teacher had teach me this before. The think that I can convince that the plant has no nervous system, they can't think like other animals.

No, plants do not think. What happens is that sunlight destroys a growth chemical, causing the stem on the side of the plant that is facing the light to grow at a slower rate than the side facing away from the light. Because of this, the fact that one side is shorter causes the plant stem to bend in that direction. This is hardly what you could call "thinking".

Plants respond to tropism ie. this means the reaction of a plant to a stimulus.Thera are 2 types phototropism and geotropism. Phototropism is the reaction of a plant to the light. Also thay need light for photosynthesis.

this is because of the extremely sensitive proteins in the plant s cell that tell the plant where the light is coming
from causing the cells farthest from the light to elongate due to the release of the hormone auxin and this
elongation helps the plant to bend towards the light source so it is plant life characteristic of irritability that
helps the plant to bend towards light source as it responds to the stimuli provided by the protein.

Photo sensitive receptors in the leaf cause the plant to direct itself towards the sun

This is referred to as phototropism. The plant bends in the direction of the sunshine considering that developing raises at the non-mild uncovered part of the stem, prompted through an accelerated degree of the hormone actin.

Plants turn towards light just because of a phenomena called photoperiodism. [plant hormones also play a role]
You can undestand this by asking why do we grow upwards and not downwards? Does our brain think that way?? I think its just the way nature wants it.

I don't think they know. They simply react to the stimulus of light, because of the photosensitive chemicals in them. Just as other animals hunt for food using their noses for smell of food.
