About 1000 cats have been saved from slaughtering for food in China by a lady, who keeps them in her flat for the time being, until they find a new home worldwide. Do you realize how many have been massacred already? I suggest that we embargo China as a tourist destination, even Chinese restaurants in Europe.

There is a huge difference between eating certain species and others. We have created a culture in which some animals are the companions of humans. They help us, they live with us, and they have a relation to us.

Dear joub, yes you can boycott a country whose culture you don't agree with. Should we stand and watch the Taliban as they live by their own cultural rules? Should we stand and watch women being stoned in Nigeria because of those cultural rules? I wouldn't blame Indians if they boycot us, it's their right. And it is our right to boycott the chinese if we want.

By the way, I am not so sure it is legal to do this in China, otherwise that woman wouldn't have been abel to confiscate them when she found them on the way to be slaughtered. But it is done with the tolerance of the authorities and teh people. And it is not just that. Skinning domestic animals alive for fur, killing people's pets in an entire town to eliminate some diseases carried by unvaccinated animals (instead of just vaccinating them), go together with killing unborn babies of 7-8 months pregnant women, risking the life of the women too, who have made the mistake of carrying a 2nd child.

Me and other animal lovers are sick with China and Korea, not now but long time ago, as we know that their cuisine includes snakes, apes, dogs and cats which are slaughtered with unbelievable cruelty, not to mention how they eat the apes' brain.
But it's not only that. The skin alive thousands of dogs and cats to make fairs with their skin, and there is a series of documentaries by Peta and other animal welfare organisations about this unbelievable activity of this savage and uncivilized country.
There are also documentsries about the way the Chinese kill the stray dogs and cats hitting them to death with globs. All these are beyond any dispute, and whoever is ready to excuse them as a "different culture" becomes my enemy at once, for lack of sensitivity, and of course I wish they have the same cruel end as the unprotected animals have by the Chinese butchers.
I also invite anybody disputing this massive cruelty against animals to just ask and I'll provide him/her with videos and links about the Chinese issue.
We have already decieded to boycott the Olympic Games which are to be held in Peking, and all of us involved in animal protection boucott their shops and products as well.
Ofcourse we must not expect a better behaviour from people who convict their female children to death (the famous red rooms), and deformed womens' feet for "esthetic" reasons.
As for the other animals that the western people breed for their meat, I declare to be a vegetarian myself, but I can accept consumption of meat, limited to what is only necessary. Consumption of wild animals, pets, etc is just a perversity, as well as greed.
Sorry, I cannot respect a nation just because they made some inventions in the past or nice ceramics, or even Pagodas... Their custom and habits are cruel, savage, they have no respect for life, not for nature as well.
Not even for hospitality. There are cases that they have threatened greek shp keepers to move because they want to establish their own shops with cheap products.
So yes. Let's go on with this embargo which has already been started by us, animal welfare organisations, and let's boycott their restaurants, shops and products.
Edit: Pelin, we have gathered thousands of signatures adressed to their embassies and government and we get sarcastic answers...

I love cats. They are my favorite animals of all time and have been since I was a little girl. I think what that lady did is truly noble. However...
Different cultures consider various practices acceptable, whereas we might consider the same practices barbaric. We would not eat cats but Chinese think it's normal. Another example, in the past nomadic tribes of Indians or Eskimos would practice female infanticide (killing or leaving to die any more than the first female offspring) because they were considered a burden on the family structure, not being able to perform heavy labor to support the family, yet still taking in resources such as food, water, shelter, etc. They considered this to be just, the way things had to be. But we in the modern, western world consider this to be nothing short of a terrible, barbaric medieval practice.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I certainly would never eat cat (if I knew what it was beforehand) anywhere in the world (unless I was in some weird survivalist situations where that was the only food available). But I will not embargo against China for the cat situation alone. Heck, lately I have felt better about China in general than I usually do.. because of that story about how they executed the former head of a food and drug watchdog agency, because he took bribes to approve certain drugs which made people sick and some died. Heck, I wish this country (USA) would grow some rocks and punish similar offenses like that.

Having lived with a cat for almost 20 years and still trying to recover from her recent loss, also the companion of 3 dogs for 15 years, it is unacceptable for me to understand and get the logic of why somebody would ever consider to eat -ı shiver even while I am writing the word itself- an animal which is domesticised for thousands of years.
Having the misfortune to watch the videos of PETA, I believed more and more that we humans are the most cruel and selfish creatures in the world. What some of the far eastern countries do in this matter is beyond belief.
Please nobody dare to tell me the rotten story that China is so crowded and they need to eat what they find.
THOSE ANIMALS ARE BEING EATEN AS DELICACY!!
That is the horrible part to it.
I am a meat eater but as Dellarovere stated, it is only limited to animals that are raised for that purpose and slaughtered in a humanely way. No hunted animals, game birds or young animals .. That is plain mean.
China and some other far east counties has to be punished somehow but protesting the restaurants is too weak of an action.
We should benefit from this platform and start a brainstorm and come up with a better civil force.

I know and it is very sad. It is horrible. We should absolutely do something, get into action to help those animals.
But then when i meet Chinese people they seem very nice and sweet so i don't know if embargoing Chinese people is a solution. Look at the Chinese lady who saved the poor cats for example. When i speak to some Chinese people they say that they never eat dogs and cats and they say that they find this action very inhumain.
The solution can be preparing a petition but a really big one from all animal lovers and trying to warn the gouvernment.
EDIT:
Angelo Giorgio hi:)
Oh! i'm sorry this is not an easy job. what can we do to help you dear? I love animals. My father is a veterinarian.:)

Do you think people from India should boycott European countries and America for eating beef? Cows are sacred to them. You can boycott a Chinese restaurant in Europe or America if you found out they were using cats in their food, but you can't boycott a country for living by their own culture and standards.
Edit - Good point about Nigeria...point taken. However, taliban is not a country...they are a radical extremist group that has infiltrated several countries.

Your proposal is truly brave, but I all honesty I have to admit that is a bit painful to me, for I realy like chinese cuisine (not cats though, for cats are my favourite animals , but ducks) As for tourist embargo I agree with all my heart and if you ask me it is overdue! Do anyone remember Tibet and its peolpe being maltreted in the same manner that Ottoman Turks maltreated the Greeks? Or the TIier An Men massacre?

Umm how about..yes
We should boycott away because it is wrong
I mean, yes, cattle and whatnot is eaten worldwide but the cats shouldn't be killed, slaughtered and eaten
I just don't think it is right
Cats are intelligent, useful, living, breathing souls
Not chow

Hello dear!
Well, you are correct regarding loving all animals and plants but to ban or embargo China and Chinese products it is a little excessive, to my humble opinion!
We should respect certain behavior of people and maybe try to replace some requirements by "better" habits! But till then, ...
Being in China since 2001 I have observed great changes, since the new generation has become more humane, gentle and "westernized" We should assist those trying to improve rather than throw them to their hungry and dying from starvation previous generations!

Have you ever seen the movie "Apocalypes Now"? there was a scene where the Navy patrol boat attacked a river boat and they rescued a puppy. Well, that puppy was their dinner.
Asians have been consuming dog and cat for centuries. Who are we, as another culture, to protest? For all we know, they may keep beef cattle as pets.
