They might be, but you haven't used the best methods.

You were correct to treat the house because where there is one flea, either on the animal or in the house, there will be many fleas both on the dog and in the house.

Fleas shampoos aren't particularly effective however, and flea collars are useless. Don't even bother using them.

The best flea treatment/prevention regime is to get a spot-on treatment for your dog from the vet, like Frontline or Revolution, and treat him regularly, and spray the house.

You'll need to continue treating your dog regularly in order to keep the fleas away. A flea collar won't do anything. Stick to products from your vet because shop-bought products are highly unreliable.

I don't know if you have dogs or cats, but
I have four kitties and live in the country where they go inside and out at will. Never see a flea, I use revolution every month and treat my yard. I have never had much success with home remedies for consistent flea prevention. Shampoos and powders kill the fleas on them at the time but don't repel more from jumping on. You should try frontline for cats (over counter), or revolution (which usually requires a prescription), and be consistent, use it once a month. Also, you most likely have an infestation in your home if the cat is inside. The eggs fall off and then hatch in your carpets, rugs, bedding, and furniture. You need to go to your local pet store and ask for a spray that is safe for use around your cat and spray the entire house, especially where the cat or dogs hang out. Also, putting moth balls in your vacuum cleaner bag or canister will help to kill any eggs, fleas, or larva that are sucked up. Otherwise, they will hatch in the vacuum and crawl out later. If the pet goes outside you should also treat your yard. I use sevin dust. Apply just before a rain shower, or use a hose or sprinkler to wet the lawn immediately after application.
If the infestation of the home is too bad you may see persistent fleas and need to treat more than once, or call a professional. I know it's a lot of work, but once you've got them that bad it can be expensive to fix. Also, once your cat/dog is flea free, if she continues scratching a lot, then she may need to see the vet. They can develop a topical, or skin infection from digging themselves. Good luck

Edit: Flea collars should not be used with any other type of topical treatment such as frontline or revolution. Plus, they just don't work well, and pose more health risks to the pet than to the fleas.

Most over the counter flea products do not work. Flea collars only irritate the dogs neck, they do not kill fleas all over the dog. Frontline or Advantage may work. You were right to treat the house and bedding but you may have to do it again. The eggs around will hatch!

You best solution now that you have treated everything, would be to get something like Frontline Plus and treat the dog. 24 to 48 hours after bathing the dog, Frontline Plus can be applied. It is applied once a month and will keep your pet flea free.

They die within 48 hours, but you must repeat the spray in a month, because some eggs may hatch until then.

no. fleas are never gone if you have an animal! collors dont work either shots from the vets or you can get pills which work really well but in warm weather you never fully get rid of them unless you confine your animal indoors which is crule!
