It depends on the religion.
In example, the Pagan gods are self-serving gods. They were invented by man for self-serving purposes.
But the One true G-d is to be served by us. In this way we achieve personal growth.
So the main core of true religion is to serve G-d and to stablish a relation of kindness with other human beings.

It is not true that "religion" teaches that love means not to make war. Sometimes war must be fought: against evil. And that war against evil is an act of love for mankind.

Man's religion differs considerably from the perfect truth of and from God. God does not catagorize who to hate and who to love; who to ignore because of differences, who to not pray for or to pray for; man's religion has caused more wars in the history of mankind. God teaches unconditional love and tolerance through His son Jesus Christ. It is mankind who distorts and who has twisted dogma and doctrines to fit his own cultural whims and the expense of others. The crusades, the inquisition, the Holy Roman Empire, all are examples of man's inhumanity to man that God would not possibly condone. War is a product of man's greed and selfishness. Why is it that both sides in a conflict invoke the powers of God to kill more on the other side?

Religion is nothing but way of life. How one has to behave & conduct himself in the society, with one another, what all he or she is supposed to do or not to do morally & ethically. All religion gives rules & regulations regarding all such moral & ethical issues which we follow being a part of any religion. As far making love & war that is the basic principle of all religions where the concept of universal love & brotherhood is being preached & told to be followed, any one indulging in war or terrorism definitely is infringing the principle told to him by his religion.

If that's what religion really teaches, modern believers are doing the opposite.

"Religion" and a "Relationship with God" are two very different things.
"Religion" has a core of control of the masses.
A "relationship with God" is a person's own personal communications with their supreme being and how that effects the behavior of their life.

Oneness of God Almighty. Every Scriptures says it as basic but most of them take gods beside GOD. There is no god but GOD. The ONE who has created everything and sustains.
