Only the illegals look at us like we are criminals. The rest of the world thinks of us as fools for not being in control of our borders and immigration.

the flow of immigration - both legal and illegal - must be curtailed severely to avoid inevitable financial crises and strains on our healthcare system (for example) that will ensue. In arizona, more than 1 million citizens are on AHCCCS, the state sponsored healthcare system. While no one has concrete numbers, it is estimated that over half of these individuals are in this country illegally. No proof of citizenship is required to apply.
In border towns across the Texas and Arizona border, you will find the occassional town with more registered P.O. Boxes than the official population of that city - hmmm, I wonder why that is? ......
These may be anectodtal incidents, but every great nation / state ultimately falls when the idea of what constitutes that nation / state erodes. Let me be clear - I'm not saying this country was so great "back in the day" when it was all white people (how would I know? I'm only in my 20's) - but what I am saying is that the rapid influx of immigrants who can live their lives in America with no incentive to quickly learn the language or assimilate into the American "way of life" (whatever the hell that means anyway) will destroy any sort of homogony we have left. I don't think it's right that I can go to part's of West Phoenix and find every single sign in Spanish, and no English. I don't think it makes sense that I can drive through parts of Southern California and find street signs in Korean characters.
We shouldn't all think the same way and act the same way, but we've become far too splintered as a nation and we have so many different interests and groups competing to advance their agendas that nothing ever gets accomplished.
It happened to the Aztecs, it happened to the Greeks, it happened to the Romans, it happened to the Germans and it happened to Britain.
Likewise, human beings need "space" and when this country started filling in and people started living on top of eachother, we lost the rugged individualism and ideals of self-responsibility associated with the frontier experience.
Okay - that was a rant.
America is still great, and it's a shadow of what it used to be -but if I were from another country with a crumbling economic system, you better damn well believe I'd be doing anything I could to get my *** to the US of A - legally, or illegally

An alien is defined as: "a resident born in or belonging to a various united states who has not won citizenship by making use of naturalization." So through fact an alien is somebody who already does not have citizenship, as defined, meaning that they are needless to say unlawful. So placing unlawful in front of the be conscious alien technically may well be re-pointing out what an alien already is.

Some of us, Americans, think that the way to maintain prosperity is not by deporting individuals that entered the country against the law, but instead to allow them paths toward legal work status and citizenship (should they choose). The debate should be about what is best for our country (and the world?). In my opinion, the best thing for everyone is to not deport people here against the law, but instead allow them some permanent work status. It is not because I'm a bleeding heart, or anything like that: But comeon, if it is good for the country, would you allow them to stay?

If an alien from jupiter landed in hollywood and partied with Paris Hilton would he get arrested for being an illegal alien. If Paris approves it must be American prosperous. Just like baseball as american as apple pie, but only one player starting in the all- star game is an american. Things change, people change, hairstyles change.

No, we don't consider you guys like that. But you guys also have to understand, that we, the lower class in this society, would want to improve our lives too. We're trying to be legal there as much as possible, but it's not easy. Think of it, if you are in our shoes. What would you do? You guys have to realize that you're lucky because you are born in a country that is prosperous, and unfortunately we are not.
We really don't want to invade your country or something, all we want is to be successful. And if we do that in our country, it would take us years.
And by the way, I'm not Mexican.. I'm from a different country.

Because many people think it's 1920 and are following that "Give us your tired, your poor" crap. Immigrants in the early 1900's came here legally and jobs were plentiful. These people assimilated and didn't expect America to change for them. They didn't get any handouts and expected none.

Who are the real illegal immigrants?? Please answer this question honestly and think back about 400-600 years for the answer, okay?. I am not saying we should completely allow people to come to this country in whatever ways they want, but what I am saying is lets not blow this thing way out of proportion. Just like one of the responses above you are being completely hipocritical. Don't tell me you have never seeked the service of an illegal alien ever in your life... If you haven't you are one of those wealthy Americans who have loads of money laying around everywhere in your house and may be using the greens to light up your fire place... Well there is not a whole lot of people who are fortunate like you who can afford everything in life that you can dream of and still got more money left... If it wasn't for immigrants, the prices of every basic service and labor would shoot through the roof. I am already disgusted at the cost of medical and legal expenses here in the US. I can't just fathom other costs going up to a crazy level also. Immigrants (legal and illegal) are good for the economy. Without their services people like me would be crushed under the feets of wealthy, aristocratic, non-compassionate Americans because I cannot afford the basic things and services as they can. Yes, those who cry for the heads of illegal immigrants should be considered to be non-compassionate, self serving individuals. I am all for putting a limit and contraints to illegal immigration, but not for deporting all the illegal immigrants. I believe the illegal immigrants should pay taxes, just as the legal once and IRS should come up with something to make this happen. But deport all of them? No way.... They are human beings just as you are.. So instead of crying for heads, come up with ideas to enhance their livelihood and assimilation into society by rooting for better education for them etc. After all what are they doing that are so bad that is affecting your livelihood??
Your response... What do these bands of illegal aliens do to affect my livelihood? They decrease home values throughout the city, they swamp local hospitals, they destroy public and private property, they take away educations from American children and they turn once desirable areas into crime ridden areas.
These are all mere speculations and generalizations rather than facts. I challenge you to relate any of your suggested "inconveniences" due to illegal immigrants to facts (numbers and such) rather than just making blank statements. ok?? 1) They decrease home values... how and where? give me numbers... 2) They swamp local hospitals - what is really happening is that wealthy americans like you are spending enormous amounts of money for medical expenses (when basic medical treatments are free or cheap in almost all other countries in the world) and are driving medical costs to the roof. Again it is because you are walking on money... 3) they destroy public and private property.. wow.. I am really stunned that your generalizations are getting to ridiculous levels... give me facts.. are they the only ones doing that.. think about school shootings in Mississippi, think about Oklahoma bombing... don't be so blunt... 4) they take away education from American children ... how?? Everyone must go to school to study not to evaluate who studies with them ok. Tell the so called "American Children" to learn from books and not to sit there and worry about not having Aristocratic classmates... 5)They turn once desireable areas into crime ridden areas... your ignorance and generalizations astound me. I take it that there will be bad people in the world regardless of whether they are illegals or "legal" immigrants.
So your statements are very general and I take it that you are not worried about any facts of how illegal immigrants but rather you cannot stand anything about them... that's what it comes down to. Yes you cannot stand the fact that they are not rich people like you who are worried about making couple of hundred thousand $$ less than you wanted to. These are people who struggle to make their livelihood, like how to put bread on the table for Wednesday and Thursday and how to make it through the week etc., and how to buy clothes from garage sale for my children going to school. You remind me of the rich kid who was asked to write an essay on poor people and he started like... "Once there was poor family with poor dad, poor mom, poor dog, poor housemaid, poor car, and poor car driver..." You are just not used to it... You don't know the value of hard work, because your wealthy lifestyle has been handed down to you... not everyone is as fortunate as you.... just realize you could have been in the same shoes as they are, but somehow in the past by the mercy of God, your parents were able to come to this country so that you can enjoy life now... and please show that mercy to others... be compassionate for the less desirable and not so fortunate...

If the United States is prosperous, it is because of the exploitation of undocumented workers. That is not criminal, just hypocritical.
