Saugand means good smell. It should be saugan not saugandh.

Generally if any one causes harm or insult to one, the pronouncement made by the aggrieved in public to retaliate is called pratigya. He publicly announces alerts the other party on the proposed action.

When one is serious about his statement and to establish the truth in it or to exhibit his sincerity, he takes a oath in the name of God or his beloved. That is called Kasam or Saugan.
It is normally believed if one takes a kasam or saugan in the name of his beloved and fails to keep up, it will cause harm to the beloved. When one is so confident that he will not fail then only they take such oath on beloved.

It is SAUGAN (not Saugandh). Saugan and Kasam mean PROMISE. These are Hindi words where as Oath is an English word which means - A solemn promise, usually invoking a divine witness, regarding your future acts or behavior.

These words are different from Pratigya. Pratigya means VOW - A solemn pledge (to oneself or to another or to a deity) to do something or to behave in a certain manner.

A classic example of Pratigya was the vow taken by Bheeshma not to marry in his life in order to allow Santanu and Satyavati's children are allowed to rule the country after Santanu. -
