Obviously you are trying to be "cutting edge" with your photography, and some of them work pretty well. You do have some bad crops, and some composition problems. And your exposure and white balance is all over the place, you have a lot of images which are overexposed with blown highlights. The underexposed images could be brought up in an image working program, such as Photoshop, Elements, PSP, whatever program you use to work on your photos. But once you blow the highlights, there's no information there to adjust.

Before you can break or bend the rules, it is really helpful to understand just what the rules are. I suggest that you get a book or two on beginning photography. Learn about lighting and composition. Study your camera manual to learn what the settings do and how that affects your picture. Try to get a book called "Understanding Exposure", by Bryan Peterson.

Study images you like and think about how they were made. Then try to duplicate the look in your own world. Visit great photo sites like photo.net, websites from wedding and portrait photographers, Kodak.com etc. See what the pros are doing. Study the light around you and how it changes throughout the day. Keep practicing and have fun, photography is a rewarding hobby and there is always room to grow and learn.

I like most of your work.. Not everthing you do can be great.. but I see that you have talent, Have you ever had your work reviewed?

Go to this site.

It's a great place to get started as a serious photographer. You can win money in contests and you will have your work reviewed by other artists all over the world! It does cost about 7 dollars a month but really what is 7 dollars a month!? It really is worth it and it will motivate you to take better and more photos. You will get tons of feedback on what you're doing right and what you need to improve on. PLease check it out if you are serious. If you sign up I'll message you so you'll know that its me.

I did really like some of your work. Mainly on the first page. It does show promise. Edgy and cool. However you need to seriously work on lighting. Your's weren't bad but the very word 'photography' means 'drawing with light'.

That is why people hire profession photographers. Because we know lighting and posing. I do love the edgy stuff but work too on classical posing. This is harder to do. Also, try working with children and larger groups. These will test your fortitude. Children don't follow direction and groups are tough since you have 5 or six people you want to follow directions.

Mostly start with your lighting. Work, work, work. Indulge your passion and keep up with it. You'll get there.

"fallen", "light" and the one with the girl sitting in the midst of the red broken pieces are real nice. Also the one with girl sitting in old car has great promise.

You definitely have an eye for an artistic approach. The fact that you had limited subject matter and backgrounds as you stated, yet you did some good work, tells me you are on your way. With some more understanding of the basics of photography and a good dslr you will be top notch for sure.

Good work and thanks for posting your pics. Go shoot some more and let us see them.

You have a very good eye even if you are "untrained." But learning for a photographer is self-teaching. Look at photography magazines and books from the library (or bookstores). Look at the photos in magazines that cater to the type of photos you want to take like National Geographic for travel photos, Harper's and Elle for fashion, Newsweek and Time for photojournalism. When you find a photo you like try to duplicate it. Then try to change it to make it better. Be very, very critical of your photos. I shot hundreds of photos to get just one for use as do other pros. A photographer may shoot 5,000 shots for one magazine cover with a 1000 or more being the usual.
Look online for photographers and links to photo collections. Look at their work with a very critical eye. Figure out what you like and why you like. Ask yourself what makes a good photo? Ask others for comments but take their comments lightly. Everyone has opinions and everybody's opinions are different rather than "right" or "wrong."
I haven't looked through the following links so I can't verify that they are all good places to visit but you need to learn to discriminate good from bad photography for yourself. At least here are some starting places:

A good photographer can take a mundane surrounding and make something special from it.

You show promise in some of your shots. Keep practicing, read everything you can about photography, lighting, posing....you could get there someday.

I really like a lot of these from an artistic perspective...may I have permission to keep "dance baby dance" in my pictures folder for future use? I will happily credit you with image use if and when I ever use it!
