My parents have Cigna insurance. I understand that I am no longer a considered an eligible dependent when I am legally married, but I am also a full time student. Which status is the dependent variable when considering eligibility? If I'm married AND a full time college student, does that mean I can't get coverage?

My fiancee and I are are both full time students and I only have 6 months left until I am finished. I have basic insurance through my college. However, the reason I was asking is this: I need to have surgery and my parents' insurance covers the procedure completely. I pretty much answered my own question, however, I wonder how easy is it for an insurance company to find out that I'm married? Do I need to notify the insurance company or do they automatically find out? I know that they monitor student status regularly (and I don't plan on dropping out any time soon!). Considering that I have only 6 more months left of college I don't know how quickly they will be informed of my marriage.

Inquire about COBRA insurance. If you are a full time student you can qualify. COBRA insurance meant to be temporary and can last up to 18 months only. Most insurance companies have COBRA, inquire with you currrent insurance co. or google it. As any insurance, it won't cover existing conditions and depending of the plan you choose, it may not cover pregnancy either.
Another choice is for you to get temporay health insurance. All insurance companies have temporary health insurance upto 6 months. Inquire with your insurance company about temporary insurance plans. Plans prices rance from ( $ 60-250 dollars a month)
Another alternative is for you to get in your husbands family health insurance from his work. Or for you to find a part -time job that offers medical care insurance.
I hope that I helped. Good luck

I used to work for a managed care company, and normally because you are married, you cannot be covered under their policy. Have one of your parent´s call Cigna, or their employer benefits department, just to make sure.
Is there a policy you can buy sponsored by your college, or does your husband work where health insurance is offered? Check into this, and do not go without insurance. Even though I´ve had it all my life, and, thank God, have never had to use it often, I have discussed with so many people what happens when they don´t have insurance-you can be financially ruined for a long time, or for the rest of your life.

If you're married, getting health coverage for both you and your husband will be youand your husband's responsibility. Add on as a dependant to your husband's policy, through his employer. If he doesn't have medical insurance, than you two will need to find a way to get insurance. Perhaps there are student rates in your area? Or, you could use a low-cost clinic like many other students do...

Well they can find out easily. And they will bill you after they figure out. It is insurance fraud and you can no longer be a dependant once you are married. No matter how much money you will save or anything. By getting married you have agreed you will take care of eachother, and no longer need your parents.
Insurance fraud gets prison time and fines. Its not worth it.

If you get married then you are no longer your parents responsibility. You and your husband will need to get your own insurance policy (thru his work, an independent policy, etc). You can get a joint policy or get your own policy. Call an insurance agent to find out what plan would best suit the both of you.

Will your hubby have insurance? You could be covered on his. If not, Blue Cross/BlueShield has several temporary plans that will cover you for up to 6 months and can be renewed for another 6 months. Call them. Get this worked out ASP.

Once you are married, YOU ARE NO LONGER A DEPENDENT of your parents. And this is one of the plethora of reasons that people will say that you should wait until after you finish your education and become gainfully employed before you get married. Did you really think this whole thing through? Is there some reason why you have to rush things? If he really is the "one", he will still be there when you finish school.

Ask your insurance agent. Chances are s/he will tell you that once you're married, you're no longer your parents' responsibility - and are no longer covered.
That might be a hint, kiddo - to maybe postpone your wedding until AFTER you graduate and are gainfully employed with a firm that offers insurance...
If it's meant to be - your fiance will wait.
