Beyond the half a dozen or so sites that they always show to tourists can anyone recommend any underrated places to see in the Golan?

Particularly in the fields of archeology and nature

PS—please leave the politics out of this question; there are plenty of other questions on this site where you can voice your political opinion. I ask you politely not to do it on this one.

There are many beautiful places in the Golan. Here are a few of them:
-Brechat Hameshushim
-Nachal Dabrushieh (that's a gorgeous water hike with the remains of an old mill at the end - so you have both nature and archeology)
-Nachal Yehudia - a nature hike with lots of water. There are some difficult and challenging parts, I think, like climbing ladders and some parts that you gotta know how to swim. I don't really remember, I was there a very long time ago.
-Mapal Sa'ar (in the winter - there's no water there in the summer)
-Ein Teena - a beautiful water hike. but know that if you go there in August you'll probably meet half of the Israeli population there :)
-Mivtzar Nimrod - the ruins of an ancient castle on the top of a mountain. It's a very interesting site and the view from there is exceptional.
-Gamla - the ruins of a big city on a hill which fell at the time of the Great Jewish Revolt against the Romans (66-73 CE). The historian Josephus Flavius was the general at that battle. There is lots of history around Gamla, and another special thing about it is that if you're there and around sunset you may see the vultures of Gamla fly in to their nests, which is an amazing sight.
-Ya'ar Odem - the remains of the great woods which once covered the Golan.
-The Golan Winery in Katzrin
-I would also recommend that you go visit the druze villages in Ramat HaGolan, like Mas'adeh and Ma'ajdel-a-shams. it's an unforgetable experience.
-Shmurat Nachal Baniaas - that's a site in which you hike along the Baniaas river. There are a number of options as for the route, the one I did was from source of the Baniaas to She'ar-Yashuv. I did it twice and I can't wait to do it again.

Anyhow, I'm sure there are lots more places, the Golan is full of little lovely corners and sites, so enjoy!!!

There are many hikes in the Golan, there's "nachal elal"- a very nice hike, "nachal zavitan" and so much more- just look around and you'll find many hikes! nature-wise thats probably what you'd want. You could also go to the kinneret and just sit by the water. An archealogical place up there would be Tzipori, its an ancient town and is now being dug up and there is also a place in Katzrin. There is no shortage of things to do in the Golan! :)
