Is there such a thing as contracted soldiers. According to this program they are paid big bucks.

they are called MERCS and they can be from any country but a lot are from the good ol' USA. And they do make big bucks because they see a lot of action and/or they are operating in very dangerous areas

A large one is Blackwater USA a North Carolina based company that employs soldiers for hire.
Another company possibly in use is Greystone LTD which is multinational I believe.

Yep, last count has us having hired more mercenaries to work in Iraq than we currently have soldiers there. They provide an array of support services including a lot of body guard/ security work.


Makes you think Roman Empire doesn't it?
